Petrol gauge

  Clio MK 4
Now i have a 172 ff and wondered if it was just my car but when I fill my car the needle goes to the top and the first half goes down sooooo quickly compared to the bottom 2/3 bars.

i mean i go through 2 bars from filling in 25 miles!!! and thats with no ragging. but then it eases off. Really demoralising lol

The last 2 bars last ages luckily

  clio 2.0 182 & z3m coupe
ha, mine does that as well, first few bars go in like 10 mins then it really slows down but unlike yours the last 2 bars dissapear in 10 mins as well really annoying.

  clio 182 black /gold
Mine looses the first two bars after about 40 miles then takes ages to get to half and a while to empty.

My Mark 1 also is famous for this, the best one is when i switch of the engine at night with say a full or half tank. When i start the car up in the morning ive gone down by 2 bars. Really weird.

Just Renault quality.

Do you have a locking fuel cap? Ever found a length of hose sat in the road by your rear wheel?

TBF, my fuel guage does the same rapid decent thing, and ocassionally decides to be nowhere near where it was last time I ran the car.

^ lol!

In reality the non-linearity is due to the odd shape of the clio fuel tank - its narrower at the top than the bottom, so the level drops more quickly at the top of the tank than nearer the bottom. You'd have thought they'd put a non-linear sender on the fuel guage, but no, it's a linear one!

I do have a locking fuel cap, and yes, where the fuel filler is, the black hose, i wondered what it was, but when i had the car on the ramp it made it clear. Dangerous to have it just there with no protection to people putting holes in it.

Does your clio do the fuel thing when you switch the car off and on?

my old 1.2 was like that. fisrt 2 bard went like shazzam, then the top half was good. then, the bottom half went like a shot, and i hit red when i got to 300 miles.
