Hi
Getting car this week but needs belts doing
Smiths of peterborough just quoted me 850 for cam and aux belt, water pump and new tensioner, I asked for the cost split out and they said 50/50
Just had look and can get parts delivered for 325, not adding up to me, have i got the parts right?

aux belt and tensioner 75 quid
cam belt kit, dephaser, water pump, coolant, bolt etc 250

Is there another local place recommended in peterborough or is that quote about right??

Thanks

Can't think of any useful indies in our area, but at that price I'd expect to be taking it to a Renault Main Dealer.
Google isn't giving up much useful either, best I can find is THIS which I'm not entirely sure about

£976?

172/182 with AC & Dephaser - £530.00
  • Oil & Filter Service (+45.00)
  • Cam cover removal and reseal (+108.00)
  • Water pump & coolant replacement (+120.00)
  • Thermostat replacement (+45.00)
  • Accessory drive pulley (+128.00)

Sure, that's a comprehensive bit of servicing but jeeeeeeeez. Also, Nottingham isn't exactly local.

nice plug though, and the guy is worth mentioning

This is why Clios with nearing-end-of-life belts are found for sale at "£50 or swap for a Beano"

Wish they were a bit closer, looking at Mick site Smiths renault were not that far off for all in when I add up full lot
Diamond = 530 + water pump 120 + acc pulley 128 = 778
Called renault back and they dropped to 820 for the full works

Thanks for all the info

I did not see any mention of aux belt crankshaft pulley or oil change in your original quote of £850, are you sure they are including this in £820?
Water pump & belts are £650 at Diamond,£200 less.
Aux belt crank pulley is not usually required.

Give Engine Dynamics a ring they are near Harlow so not a million miles away, I believe they would be cheaper than the price you already have and know what they are doing

Worth travelling for a specialist
meeeeeeehhhhh.
It's a cambelt, on a Renault. It's not the avionics on an Airbus.
True, there's all the CS Horror stories you can probably pull out where "Johnny Backalley Servicing" gave someone back a broken car, but for every one of those, there'll be 150 unwritten stories of where Kwik Fit did the job just fine. People just don't post when things happen without issue.

Am sure that's true although I also know of 'specialists' and garages who work on more exotic machinery too who can't get the timing correct on a Clio, I guess anyone can have an off day just wouldn't want them too if it was me paying the £650+

At £850 thats within the realms of driving it until the aux belt pentrates the cambelt with great force and swapping the engine out for another at £500.
