PH1 172 Strange noise possible clutch bearings?

My bro's car is making a strange noise when in gear. As soon as the clutch is engaged the noise disappears.

He says it's like "A whirring noise that gets louder as I accelerate".

If it is the clutch how much would it cost for a new one or just for fitting if he got the parts?

Any ideas? Can get him to give more details if needed... :S

That is just like mine did.
I found out it was the bearing at the differential. It cost me a new gearbox. :/

Ouch!!! New gear box!

My brother believes it's the clutch bearing as the whirring noise gets louder in gear as he accelerates and quieter as the car slows down. Cheapest quote so far is £700.

Will double check with him tonight if he's home but on Facebook his status says "£500 new clutch fitted - sorted!" lol.
