Phase 1 172 - How easy to update to later parts? + misc questions

  106 GTi
I know a few people have done this to varying degree's on Phase 1 cars.

What is involved/how easy does the rear later 172 rear bumper go on?

To do the front to 172/182 spec what else needs to change, grill, headlights, bonnet of course, front wings?

With the later bits front and rear can the origional arch liners be used ? (these may be going in the bin anyway.)

What is the score when it comes to fitting the later dashboard in the car ? (due to the nature of the car will only be keeping the upper part anyway)

Suspension wise how different is the set up to later models, width of the track etc ?

Cheers

Matt changed the TT from a mk2 phase 1 to a phase 2 face lift so he's probably the best preson to ask

The phase 2 rear bumper is a straight swop on to a phase 1 car. You don't 'need' the arch liners but the mk2 arches liners are deeper due to the deeper bumper i have a pair available for sale

Cheers - Will drop him a PM if need be.

Anyone on here done the dashboard?

A mate of mine has done the dash. Said it was a fairly easy swap Incl the bit around the gaitor. Then you will need the door cards for it all to look right.

Thats the plan, not seen it yet but needs a new front valence, wing, hence the face lift idea. Been learning to prep and paint at a mates bodyshop of late, so hoping it will be a nice winter project.

cool...dont know whether you know... but all the clio cup racers actually started life as Ph1s... then renault produced a conversion kit to make them look like Ph2s :D

Well my next thread was going to be, did they ever race Phase 1's in the Clio cup, so cheers.

Freebone, are you not allowed to clean them after use? With it all being stripped and repainted I will be able to polish it inside and out :D

It will be a clean track car ;)

they look better dirty........

although dirt would add weight it is advisable not to clean the inside as you could get reflections that could blind you off the super clean surfaces....

Update kit was made available by Renaultsport for the Clio Cup race cars.

Now what that kit included apart from the obvious I have no idea.
Might be worth talking to an existing cup team to see if they know.

The rear end is a piece of cake to change Rich

The front ends easy to change.
however it won't be a phase 2 as the phase 2 cars have extra strenghting panels on the shell.

Thanks guys.

Where are the extra strengthing panels Edde? Not that this should be issue as it will ideally be caged.

This one wont. After seeing how well turned out some of the Cup cars where at the RWS it really got me in the mood.

Reflections wont be problem, as I have already found someone to coat the dashboard.

all the current clio cup cars (mk2 phs2) are actully mk2 phs1's

they all had to be converted when the new shape came out

If one has been really badly smashed up and requires a new shell, what are they supplied then, still a phase 1 bodyshell?
