I treat myself to a Sony A7Riii a couple of weeks back, fancied trying something full frame as apposed to M4/3. Only gone for a couple of cheaper lens so far, but once I've sorted a remortgage out in the new year I think I'll try some Sigma/G Master lens out.

I’m more and more thinking about getting back into my photography, been years since I’ve last picked it up. Going to take it out the wardrobe next few days ago charge up the batteries and get my stock lens back on. With me sold my L series 24-70 and L series 24-105 I only got my stock lens and 50mm prime.

im into my landscape and seascape I can’t remember which used more. If I were to purchase 24-70 or the 24-105 which one should I go for? Looking at some prices the 24-105mm I much cheaper.

im hoping my camera is fully working and good to go, i had a quick look on Canon website and there’s the 5D which is full frame and it’s not for me, looks like there’s no other cheaper full frames than the 5D, what happened to the 7D? Mid range is the 90D which is non full frame which could be an option, my current DSLR is the 500D and can someone tell me how old they are? I can’t remember when I got mine from new.

hopefully get some pictures back on the local tv weather and newspapers

Just had a quick look as I’m not too clued up of Canon.

24-70 will be more expensive as it’s fixed f/2.8. The 105 is f/4.

If you’re shooting primarily landscapes you’ll probably want to stop down to f/8 anyway, so unless you’re shooting low light and/or want a shallow DOF for things other than landscapes, the slower lens would be fine.

Again, I don’t know canon but 24mm screams to me that it’s a lens designed with full frame in mind. So be wary of the crop factor of an APSC sensor as it’ll impact your FOV; ie, won’t be wide.

If you’re shooting APSC, I’d think you’d want something with a min 18mm for landscapes, as that’s 24mm FF equivalent.

Personally, I’d sack off the DSLR idea and go mirrorless. So many good options out there from Sony, Lumix, Fuji etc.

The 500D is 15 years old now and tech has moved on massively, you’d be amazed at the low light performance of even base model Lumix micro 4/3’s. My Sony shoots at ISO12800 with barely any noise, lol.

The 7d isn't full frame. It was the best crop body out there though out of the canon series. Lots of sports and nature photographers used it due to the ridiculous shutter speeds it could do.

I'm picking up another 6d body off my mate who moved to Sony for cheap. From memory its like new and not abused like mine is.

The 500 series is at least years old, maybe more.

The 24-105 is the canon kit lens which I got with my 6d. Iirc it's f4 all the way but it's hardly used.

Yeah your right it was the 6D was full frame body, 7D was APSC , I was looking at the 6D not sure if they did a mk2 version later, anyway yeah my old 2 l lenses 24-70 and l 24-105 were both f4. the 24-105 I got came in a white box from HDEW which was from a kit originally.

from what I remember a wide prime didn’t appeal to me , a zoom did me well

Theres not as many options now as what I was remembering on the sites, they had current gen and last generation too

i may look at the full frame 5D down the line and not get a newer iPhone lol.

i still got the rest of my kit, bag, 055 Manfrotto carbon fibre tripod and lee filters, I’m still happy with the DSLR size and Canon and what it does would be nice to have better tech and more pixels than the 500D get more light in the camera

whats MPB again?

what’s the Canon 90D like anyone know much about it?, the new version of the 5D body only new is going for around £1600

They did do 6D Mk2 yeah.

The 24-70 MK2 was the one which was F2.8

MPB is a used camera shop online.

The 90d was pretty much the last of the semi pro bodies before Canon started going mirrorless. 30+MP crop sensor, 10fps.

Are Canon APSC 1.6x crop? So at 24mm, that’s giving you 38mm (ish) equivalent, which is way too tight for most landscape shots surely?

Quick google, there’s a 17-55 f/2.8 which would be a much better option if you’re planning to stick with a crop sensor. Cheap too.

I’ll have a look in some videos and I didn’t realise Canon stopped and went over to mirrorless that explains why there’s less stuff on the DSLR’s. There’s the EF and EF-S there’s no crop or zoom or whatever you call it If I were to use a EF-S lenses , there’s is a however If I was using the EF lenses on my 500D.

Need to have a good look in the models and I don’t know nothing in the mirrorless and how it differs from the DSLR. First of all I need to have a look at my 500D see if it works.

I think the 5D would be over kill and the 250D would be a choice or even the 90D, but noticed some have these tilt swivel screens rather than a standard lcd display

The new mirrorless stuff uses the newer RF mount and a whole new range of RF lenses, but you can still use EF lenses with an adaptor.

Need to decide on how much you want to spend and go from there.

Just had a look and digged out my camera, i've still got my orginal receipt from Currys and it's dated 2011 when i bought it for £470. Got it charged up now. What i might do there's a local wellbeing place where i do regular walks with them, there's another class they do for photography every week, i'll tag along as i've never been to their photography walk yet. I've had a look on MBP and checked out their cameras and lenses, seen the Canon 24-70mm EF - L series lens around £450.

I'll have a play about with my stock lens on a few walks and see how i get on and have a good look on MBP, anyone bought anything from there, i've noticed you cant get any detail description on a certain item, other than it says good, excellant and that and the pics. After seen some of the pics and my DLSR , mine is absolutly prestine condtion

Did have a look at tthe mirror less cameras and the R8 looks ideal, or maybe go down the MBP and get a used 5D MK4 or Canon 6D mk2, if i go down the camera route

I’ve made a comment on the other thread about editing photos. I’ve been trying to get into my Flickr account past week , been a very long time since I’ve been into it and would like to post pic’s again. I tried logging in with my details , I got in it says I been banned ?!?!. I went out and tried to get in again but couldn’t so I sent a message to Flickr support to get me back in, no response yet. Could someone try and see if they can see my images on my Flickr account please and see if my images show or see if it says banned lol

Still showing your account but that doesn't measure you've not been banned?

Good to see my account is showing and some pics, I’m puzzled on why it said it, could be just a standard couple lines that may not have been for me. I’ll see over the next few days for response, I’d rather not want to make new account and have no idea that Flickr is to do with Yahoo as it’s asking for a yahoo email.

I did get a response back from Flickr but it was pretty vague automated reply. I sent more info to try and get and get back into it. Shocking that it’s all done by email or automated and can’t ring them up and sort it out
