photoshop cs3 peeps - very quick help needed please!

trying to do this tutorial

but stuck on this part;

CTRL + Click on the text layer. Go to Select > Modify > Expand. Set it to 5 and click OK. Right Click on the selection and click Select Inverse. With the top layer selected, go to Edit > Clear.

but it doesnt work for me, It just deletes the "larger" white lines.

anyone please, really want this effect looks very cool.

No probs here. Be sure and ctrl-click the 'T' in the layer palette and this will create a selection line around the text only. From here expand this by 5.
