Photoshop Help!

Well i have paintshop pro which pretty much does the same things..

Im making a picture for my friend for her birthday.. Ive got the picture i wanted and photoshopped it how i want it.. I just went to staples to get it blown up on A3 photo paper and its very pixelated and distorted.. Is there anything i can do to stop this from happening?

Is there a way to get the original photo at a higher resolution? Using the higher res will allow it to be blown up without losing quality.

you'll want the picture at least 300dpi at the correct size and no its no good just upping the dpi on a low res original image.
