Hi all, as above and can’t wait now:D . I would just like to thank all for the great info on this site. Its all helped me whilst trying to find a good 172 (hopefully anyway). I will be handing over the keys of my manually tuned Pug 306 TD for the 172. It has given me a few years of fun driving (even if it is an oil burner). I know the 172 is quicker, but I can only hope that it is as much of an entertaining/good handling drive as the Pug has been. It will be fun finding out.:D

It'll be a lot more entertaining than the 306 mate, worry not. Are you planning any modifications, or are you keeping her standard?

If you're modding it, I'd start by changing the springs for some Eibachs. New springs will certainly freshen up the ride too.

Dont think I can afford anything for the first year at least. The first thing will probably be a SS exhaust once the standard one drops off. Its a shame it isn't as easy as changing the boost and adjusting the fuel pump/compensator as on the pug to get an extra 20-25 bhp. Oh well cant have it all and I think it will take a while before I get board of the extra power

you'll find it alot harder and expensive to get that kind of gain out of the RS clio

I know but I'm sure it would be worth it when the time comes. What is the cheapest/easiest way of getting them to 200bhp? Also has anyone ever tried to get a mountain bike in the back (with seat down) of one? I never got chance to try on the test drives.

Had 3 bike in mine and 3 people. Was VERY tight.
What colour is it? You'll love it unless stuff breaks like mine.

you should have got a new corsa if your into your mountain biking, those new bike racks they have are excelent and i'm sure will be a deal clincher for any keen bikers.

but if your into your driving good choice with the 172, i'd just fold down the rear seats and make sure you put down sum sort of plastic sheeting over them to make sure no oil/mud etc goes on your seats or carpets.

youll love it mate the best thing i ever done was get myself a 172 :) they are soooo nice to drive

i often (all the time lol) find myself taking the looonnngg route home just because driving has become so much fun since owning the clio

i love the pull the 2ltr engine has in this small car :) and it seems very good on corners allthough i think mine could do with dropping 30-40mm

only thing is now i want to drive/own the 182/197

have fun mate and watch out if yours hasnt got traction control then becarefull as 172 horses on them 2 front wheels in this cold weather can catch people out

:)

enjoy

As much as I like my bike I would take the 172 any day over a 1L new corsa (the best I could afford). I was thinking of the astra sri2.2 or a st170, but after a test drive of a 172 it had to be a hot hatch over a warm hatch. That and my brother has a cooper s, so I had to get something that will perform as well as that:rasp:

Made sure I got one with ESP on for that reason. It's also nice to know that it will be quicker than the cooper s:D

I had a 306 Dturbo Hdi before my 172..... and preferred the way the 306 handled. The Clio is much sharper, but less composed as a result imho.

The extra straightline grunt is worth it alone though.

Im just over the hill in Halifax, good desicion getting the 172

Ive got a flame red one, keep an eye out :)

Eibachs is a good choice as mentioned, nice subtle change visually, but notice it in the corners
