pipercross + decat = problems (182)

A friend at work just e-mailed me as he's got bit of a prob so I said I'd try find out for him...below is the e-mail...any ideas?

"I fitted a pipercorss induction kit along with a decat pipe a few months back , as expected the engine management light has been on since about 3 weeks after installing them , problem is that the car recently doesnt want to rev past 4000rpm , it certainly doesnt have the vvti kicking in anymore , have you come across this before?

the decat wasnt expected to cause this problem im thinking the engine is cutting back on power cos it thinks there a problem when there really isnt but im not too sure ! any possible info would be useful as I dont want to take to a garage just yet if there something simple i can do "

De-cat shouldnt cause limp mode, i have a de-cat fitted with no light at all,. my mate has a de-cat fitted and his light is on all the time but doesnt take it into limp mode...

Might of fubbared a lambda whilst fitting the de-cat ?

same with me, light on but no limp mode, its just chance imo that the cars gone into limp mode after the filter and decat has been fitted, i wouldnt think it was any of that that is causing the problems tbh

Perhaps he has distubed the lambda sensor whilst putting the decat in I'm not sure the light will come on but it shouldnt go to limp mode

cheers guys...whats the fault thing you can do when it shows the codes on the dash? would anything show up in there do you think?

also how to you do it? hold the button in on the wiper stalk and turn the car on?

nah that wont help youl need a code reader /clip or similar diagnostic device

doubt it very much, but you can try

drive to bedford and ill clear the engine code for free if there is one.

god knows, he lives in Cardiff so I've not actually seen it lol

Has he put the air flow meter pipe on the air filter elbow?? Installed my viper last night and forgot to plug in that pipe and it kept goin into limp mode!
