Play in the gear lever/linkage 172 Cup

  Clio 172 Cup
Hi, new to 172 Cup ownership (as of yesterday) and loving it so far but wondered what, if any, options I might have on gear stick play. Certianly is positive into and out of all the gears but when it's in a gear the lever has quite a bit of play side to side. Being new to the cars I don't know if they are all like this or its age related (41K miles, 6 years old).

Read a few threads on the short shifters cos I wondered if that kit would help but seems like it might be opening a can of worms with those and putting more stress on the box itself.

Any thoughts/recommendations on getting the shift a touch more positive (I had an R27 for a while and that was a great change but obviously a new car).

Chers, Rich. :D

there are no linkage steady rods so, assuming yours is OK internally, all you can do is renew/upgrade the engine/box mounts. there are four and three of them are upgradeable for sensible(ish) money

Cheers, looks like the previous owner did the engine/box mounts mid last year so they should be ok (no banging under hard acceleration for example), I guess it's something to live with, not a major problem but thought if there was a simple fix I could do it.
