Hey people, i need your help
I am very very close to buying a 08 plate 197 cup. The car has done less that 5,500 miles, and comes with the whole spolier kit, and black wheels. I took a test drive in it, and its a very different bit of kit to my 182. They have given me a fair price for my 182 ff, but i will have to get a bit of finance. What i was wondering was, is the swap really worth it? Whats the 197 cup like to live with? Is it something you have regretted getting after ur 182 ff? Did you miss the rain sensors, auto lights and lil electric bits? I need to make a decision by tomorrow, so please help

i personally didn't. but then i got a normal 197. only extra was metallic paint.

You will notice the MPG. do not under estimate that issue. if you got 33/34 in your 182, you will likely get under 30 in the 197. if i cruise on the motorway at 70 i'll get about 32ish. if i drive it ''normally'' i'll get 26/27. if i dirve it HARD. well no point saying really...

I enjoy the better grip and imo, handling at speed. people will go on about the lightness at low speeds. this is due ot the power steering. at pace and whilst driving swiftly it is a delight. it sounds superb at the top of the rev range too! :D

I love the keyless entry but then that doesn't mean much in buying a cup.

Ultimately it comes down to what you want it to do. if you are doing motorway miles i would not personally bother as it ain't a motorway cruier. if you want a superb handling hatch that is exciting and thrilling pushing on do it. i guess in your test drive you didn't get to have a real proper drive?

i didn't miss any of the senors as i didn't bother using htem before. found the sensors annoying for the wipers. i do miss xenons though.

I can only comment on what a cupped 197 is like to drive im afriad (im an R27 owner). In terms of toys ive got the lot so aint much point me talking about them

Lets get the negatives out the way first.!

Motorway drving is fairly loud. You will be at about 3.5 to 4k revs in 6th gear at 70.
MPG is shoddy to say the least.
If you have the recaros in your cup the right hand side bolster will wear because your thigh will rub on it as you get in and out. It will frey, so you have to be super careful getting in and out.

Positives!

It goes like stink. (you will be used to that though i guess)
It corner far better than any 182 will. It litterally sits on rails as you take corners.
It makes such a great sound standard.
It stops better than any 182 with the brembo brakes.

And this is subjective of course but a 197 looks the dogs wobbley bits.

And the 197 is ten times the car the 182 is. Loved it.

Only thing is the 'Cup' spec. The steering wheel is f**king terrible, as is the trim inside. Not sure I could live with that tbh.

Looks bloody brilliant though! (Is this James's old car btw?)

i went from an artic blue ff 182 which i loved to bits to a standard 197.

i added options like xenons, electronic folding door mirrors, auto lights and wipers and climate control to get it up to where my 182 had been with features.

the keyless entry is white mans magic, feels weird driving other cars and having to find the ignition slot.

the 4k revs in 6th at 70mph is annoying and i am looking for a higher gear!

trim wise i miss the 182 leather/alcantra but 197 feels better built.

handling is my only issue, i have a non cupped version and i feel my 182 handled better.

it does go like hell when you open in it up and sadly i have to say after a shite day at work i can see my car and it puts a smile on my face.

mine was in a local bmw specialist bodyshop and the owner was amazed at its spec and thought it had cost cicra 18k

I had a FF182 for nearly 4 years and loved it.I bought the 197 just over a month ago and it's awesome,much better build quality,corner's brilliantly and seems more stable.I have said this before but the power delivery seems much smoother than the 182 and still very quick;I think the keyless entry is great but takes a while to get used to after using a key for so long.It put's a BIG smile on my face too!.

Well, ive now put pen to paper, and aslong as the credit checks goes ok, then i pick her up on friday:D. I took her for a drive yesterday, they just let me have the keys, and his word were " we trust u, just bring it back when you have finished". So i thought this would be a good chance for me to see all the aspects of the car. So i took it through town and down by cabot circus to see what it was like on speed bumps etc, and also the image facotr (lets face it, you want people to look at your car). The cup chassis is different from my 182 ff, you can certainly feel the speed bump etc, but it wasnt as bad as first thought. The image factor, it did get a few looks and points, but not too much, which is nice. So off i go to the M32 to see how it goes, all i can say is WOW, the noise is amazing and i love the gearbox, also with the recaros it does feel like your in a lil race car, i also like the driving position, being a taller guy of 6ft 4 its nice to have a bit more room. The area which i took it around didnt really have any twisty bits, the closest i got was maybe pushing it a bit around the roundabouts, and only judgeing by that, it might aswell of been on rails. The only thing i was a little dissapointed in was the interior, i can live without the auto wipers and lights, but i would of thought that electric mirrors wouldnt of been a massive luxury. Also the interior is a lil bland, but over time, a few bits of chrome (not OTT) will be added, maybe the handbrake button, and door handles, does anyone know where i can get these items, not sure if renault do them seperatly. So hopefully i will be pickin her up friday evening.

Cheers mate, im really looking forward to it. There are a few minor things which need to be sorted out, and they will be all done by friday. Its also a nice supprise to see that my insurence is cheaper than the 182.

Had a 197 FF (remapped) and we now have a Trophy (mapped, new exhaust) and Megane 225.

Never been happier and don't miss the 197 at all.

personal choice though

Each to there own i guess, i just found the 197 an all round better vehicle for me
