please help with my stupid 182 alarm

I came out of work tonight to find there was a clicking noise under the bonnet, got in the car and tried to start it but the alarm wouldn't disarm so although the engine started the lights and siren still went off, turned it on and off a few times and finally it let me start the engine without going off and i got home but the light next to the gear shift still flashes even without the alarm being set.

can i disarm the damn thing by doing some sort of procedure so i can still use the car till i can it fixed and can anyone explain the clicking?
