Polishing my Fuel Rail Guard

Just thought I'd post a few pictures of my progress with polishing up my fuel rail guard. It's certainly one of those jobs I wished I hadn't started and paid someone else to do it for me, it's taking ages as I'm only doing a couple of hours on it now and then.

Just a question though, while polishing the Plenum up, what I've done so far on it, it's been left bolted to the engine but I'm a little concerned with all the dust created while I'm sanding, could this cause problems? I've had the Plenum off the car before but it's a ball ache removing and replacing it.

Thanks mate! Yours looks well too.

Been sanding it down with wet&dry paper then polishing it up with a kit I got from the Polishing Shop. My mondial blue engine cover should be arriving sometime this week as well, which should tidy the engine bay up.

What have you used for yours?

looks good fella, how long has it taken you to do that so far?

i started mine, but it hit me just how hard it was to do and wished id never started it, now im just goin to hammerite it black easier :)

as for the plenum its best to take it off, only is 7bolts +4 coil pack bolts to remove, which takes less than a minute to remove, get better access and the dust that comes off is shockin,

I started using the dremel at 1st but went over board with it which made it 10 times longer to get the finish I've got in the 3rd picture lol. Think I'm just going to stick to using the wet&dry for the plenum. I was using Autosol at 1st as well but with this polishing kit I've got you can get a better finish on the metal. The fuel rail guard still needs a little more work to remove some light scratches but it's come up like a mirror with this kit.

Thanks mate! I wouldn't like to guess how long I've been at it to be honest but it's seemed like a life time lol, especially because I'm just doing bits a few times a week.

I know what you mean though, I was in same mind set (wanting to give up) but once I get my engine cover I'm hoping the effort I've put in so far will come good and it'll look good.

I'm not going to bother trying to polish around the "RENAULT sport" bit though, think I might paint that bit black and paint the lettering yellow.

i started polishing mine up last summer. gave up after a while. keep meaning to finish it but never get round to it. looks ok semi polished tho. lol.

oh and i left it all bolted on when i did mine too. i just got an airgun on it and most disappeared, no problems at all.

I took Plenum off today, didn't make that much easier really, think it'll be staying on the car in the future while I'm polishing it up.

I've sanded down three of the inlets so far, didn't do anymore because I had to replace an engine mount after that I really couldn't be arsed with it lol

With the engine cover fitted. :approve:

Still needs alot of work yet but it's slowly getting there.

Looks great fella.
Was really happy with the way that engine cover turned out.
Spent some long hours preping it getting it ready for the paint and was all worth it :D

Another happy customer on CS.

Thanks mate!

Yeah you made a quality job of the cover, I'm really pleased with it, thankfully the paint didn't crack during transit. I was a little worried about that because I know what some of the delivery blokes are like with parcels. Lol
