possible cam collaspe (help)

  (icebreg) clio 172 ph2
Had my cam belt and aux belt changed at the stated 36000 miles, an yesterday wen my girlfriend come to meet for dinner, it was making a horrible noise wen she started it back up to leave.. It was like a squeeking noise coming from the front of the car (suppose it sounded like a bearing) i lift the bonnet and it from from the direction of the aux belt just behind the head light i guess..

She turned it state of and i rang the aa.. Cause i didnt want to cause any more damage, they come an hour later and i started it up and the noise started straight away getting louder wen revving.. He told me to turn it off straight away and i shouldnt drive it, as it could cause some big damage!!

He reckons it could be the aux belt or the tennision of the cam belt? They towed my girlfriend home and that is were it is now!!

My mate came round to have a look last night, see if he could find out.. He said maybe the starter motor or altator.. I went to start i up and nothing apart from a loud clunk!! We put a booster pack on it and nothing, just the clunk..

after this happened he said straight away sounds like the cam has collapsed?? Now a truely gutted!!!!

Really need some advice on wot to do next and any ideas of wot it could be!!!

Thanks for all ur help guys

ive yet to hear of a cam collapsing on a F4R, the noise you describe, isit like a milkfloat kind of noise? it could well be the lower idler on the aux belt, they get noisey over time...

try putting the car in 3rd and rocking it back and forward, just incase the starter has decided to jam in.

probably dont want to here this but you shouldnt have started it from when it first was making a noise

could be garages fault if youve just had a cam belt done

sounds like somethings come loose like crank bolt or cambelt tensioner, was the garage a specialist or dealer or was it some mickey mouse back street operation ?

it was r-s tuning that did it.. am gutted!! was like a loud winning noise oil is good, put it in 4th last night and rocked it no joy!! so wot u saying is something to do with the cam belt?? maybe a part failure?

did you have new aux belt tensioner and pully and new cambelt tensioner and pully or just the belts?

Oil cap off and get a mate to push the car in gear while you see if the cams turn. If they do you then you can rule out the cam belt....
