Potential Oil Leak

This morning I moved my car to find a lovely patch of what looks like oil on the ground! I am not machanicaly minded at all so I am going to take it to my local Renualt Dealer (where I purchased the car). A couple of questions...

1) Is this a common problem?

2) Is it simple to fix?

3) How much is it likely to cost me?

Thanks for replies in advance.

I should hope not!

Depends on the problem, might be something simple like oil filter becoming loose, or the seal round it might need replacing. Has the potential to be something nasty though

3) How much is it likely to cost me?

Depends on the problem. Then again Renault will prb charge you loads whatever the problem, shouldnt take it them really unless its under warrenty

Thanks for replies in advance.

if it is coming from the drivers side at the top of the back of the block, yes, its common on most 172s - all marks, most people just dont notice it, as it drips onto the manifold and gets burned off.

if it is coming from elsewhere - warranty job, and it is not common.

I had a split gasket seal also, but that was at 65k miles.

Cheers for the replies guys.....

Took the car upto my local garage (non-renualt dealer) they spent about 15-20 mins checking for things but could not find anything, they said there is nothing major wrong, oil levels are all fine, but as everything is wet its not easy to spot tiny problems but just keep an eye on it. They charged me nothing at all, not many garages like that about!
