Power Engineering

  Suzuki SV1000S

I have just spoken to the guy there and he said they can remap my current ECU and it wil give me 12-15bhp costs £250 +vat = £293.75.

Suppose advantage is that I would get the irratic idle problem for 1.

Views please. Group n Hill Power is £252 inc VAT for us.

hmm, remap of current ECU?

Sounds good.

Undetectable by insurance, but downside is that reno could overwrite it by accident if it goes in for work. I guess a way round this, is that PE take a back up and only charge you a minimal fee to restore it in case of wiping etc.

  Suzuki SV1000S

mmm so you think this is a better option than the Hill Power ECU.

They have a rolling road but costs £45 to do a power test.

He said that the 172 takes well to this remap though and they havent had less than 12bhp increase on any one they have done.

Also he said it would take into account my Quickshift Taipan IK and my Full system and so probably give me a bit more than a standard car anyway, hehe

  Suzuki SV1000S

Just rung them, Said that it is very very very unlikely that it can be wiped from the memory,

He also there is a noticable difference in Torque and top end so, I would notice if it did get wiped and they would just flash it back on again....

Well the bloke (james) said that they plug the laptop into my current ECU which has all the details of my IK and zorst etc and then reprogram my current one, Dont think it is on Rolling road at the time though. Will it still increase my Limiter position.

If this aint good, can you advice on where does rolling road setup.

They should do it but it costs a fraction more.

Have you mailed andy at GDI?

Mate, Just rang Andy - Nice Bloke!

It is basically a Piggy Back system.

Which they program through the lambda, Did one on a mk1 172 with cams gave them an extra 25bhp.But dont want cams yet bit expensive.Price was £550-600 for chip or £1500 Chip and cams.Bit too Pricey for me I think, May look at just chip, but for £293inc vat at PE for 12-15bhp seems ok and save £200-300 for beer or B&M Quickshift

What about a group buy type thing?

Get a few 172s down there at the same time to bring the price down?

Ditto that Yugguy.

I mean, get a few 172s down to PE in one go, so that they have a day of doing 172s and hence bring the price down.

  Suzuki SV1000S

I am up for that, When do you want to do it! They said they are fully booked for Satudays for the next three weeks, One of us would have to ring and see if they would do it cheaper though, as they may well not

Power Engineering are excellent!!!! They remap with the car on the rollers and check fueling etc

I thought that the mk1 couldnt be remaped though due to it having a different ECU to the mk2????

  Suzuki SV1000S

Are you talking about mk1 and mk2 172s

I did specifically say to them it was a mk1 172 and he said the readings they got were from a few clio mk1 172s not the mk2 172s

He was saying they get good results from the mk1 but sure it would be good for mk2 aswell

Defiantely go for a remap or programmable chip that is tuned to the car it is being fitted rather than an off teh shelf jobbie. Wish I had for my valver as not much more money and better results.

I think it has got be to be PE for the price, Just need to find out how much for group buy, Anyone offering to ring them then!

PE did mine, it is the Superchip guys down there that do it and they give you a little key chip that you need to have to be able to remap it again, so unless the Renault guys can just totally reset it or something I dont think there is any danger of them messing it up.

PE price is good, unless you want to mod the car again after...... then piggy back chip type system is better as it only costs RR time

I wish theyd become Dastek (unichip) certified. Seems they have all the equipment already.

the product we use is similar in theory to the uni chip..... (called an SMT6)

its 3d mappable.... 120 points of fuel map to play with.... great bit of kit

would love to get Andys Piggy back system but it is just too much to justify. Think I will go for the PE one, Liam will let you know matey when I go for it, They are booked for the next three weeks anyway so wont be too soon.

Thats cool but Ive already got the chip. Id just like it updated due to new mods. There arent many (any) local garages that can do it. Would be great if you could! ;)

  Suzuki SV1000S

RB_172 how has the car felt after the chip (idle, torque etc) also where did you get it from and how much you pay?

  Clio 172 Ph2

Erm... its hard to say really. Like all things, you get used to them after a while. It doesnt feel bad if that helps!

It was fitted at millway racing. I had to drive 120 miles to get there - hence why Id love it if PE could talk to dastek about becoming approved fitters. They wouldnt have much competition around this area, thats for sure!

I think it set me back about 450 at the time. ~250 for the chip and the rest was fitting + a couple of rolling road sessions.

In this world you pay for what you get. If you want a system that run and extracts 100% from your engine your going to have to spend on it.

The superchip system is fine, ive used it, but its not accurate by any means. Its a rough more here....and a tad more there system. They dont really have the ability to fuly map t your needs as they have to email the HQ, tell them what the car is reading, then reccomend a change, then HQ decides if its ok, then emails back a different map, this goes into the car, then ti gets checked...on and on and on, and time costs money.....and its not a fast process if you wanted to get it near good enough.
