Power loss and hesitating under acceleration

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
Hi

My 03' 172 has been severly hesitating under acceleration, mainly in 1st and 2nd gear.

Its with a renualt dealer right now....they have replaced the computer but they are saying the problem is still there.

This problem occured intermittingly when the car was cold usually (hence l didnt think it was a problem) and just lately it now occurs all the time.

Has anyone had or heard of this problem before?

Cheers

sounds daft, but I had it when parking on a steep incline, wouldn't go above 3000rpm, no matter how hard the accelerator was pressed.. cured it by never parking there again... sorry not much good to you..

Coil pack? maybe.

I would say the renault garage would have picked up on this but probably not.

Phoned up yesterday to see how much a new electric window would cost - woman was trying to tell me my car needed an hour on the CLIP diagnostic to tell me what was up with window - tell her to beat it.

If its the coil pack or plugs the car will struggle at low revs. Try changing into 5th at about 30mph and if its lumpy and you get a kick is probably the coils causing the misfire.

isnt there a common problem with these cars and the wiring for the coolant temp sensor ?

i may be wrong though as i dont own one, but im sure its fairly common from reading about it on here

I have the same problem. Car sometimes hesitates when trying to accelerate. Like coming out of a roundabout in 2nd and flooring it, only it doesn’t accelerate but feels like it’s slowing down for a second or two then comes back to life!

Did you find out what it was in the end??

Found out what the problem was... TDC Sensor!
After searching the forum I found loads of threads on TDC Sensor and sounded just like the problems that I was having with my car.

So at the weekend I changed the sensor, with one I got off of ebay, and the car is running like she used to! :approve:
Starts first time and no hesitation at all!

does anyone ever feel like replacing every sensor in the car, all the coilpacks, belts, seals, etc, never would, but you gotta think

I drive a Clio Mk2 Pre-facelift 1.2 8v and i have a very strong link with this problem, after changing the battery, leads, plugs, coil pack there was still no luck, yes the car was running very healthily but after driving short journeys to the shop and back the car would never start, but after a long journey it would. i trawled the Clio sport and Renault forums and everyone at some point with a Clio has moaned about a TDC sensor, this evening i will be first cleaning it and if that doesn't work i will change it. i believe there were recalls over this issue with not just Clio's but many of the Renault vehicles from that time, i hope it works but i will keep you updated, hope its sorted soon as I'm late to work on a daily basis :(((

And in reply to Rich's comment, i would love to change everything back to new factory parts, would cut out all this non starting bull crap :L

Sorted :)!!! Took the tdc sensor off, cleaned the connections and sensor, working all fine now, i suppose only time will tell with this problem to be honest, but im hoping for the best :)
