Power Steering - VERY Noisy

My power steering has recently got horrendously loud and I presume this is down to the hydraulic pump. Is this hard/expensive to fix? Is it possible for me to do it myself or is it best left to mechanics?

Is it a whining noise or more of a thudding noise?

I take it you have checked the fluid level and bled the system, if not, try that first.?

I think its more of a squeaking noise. Havent checked the fluid lately cos i have been very busy. How do i bleed it?

Theres alot of info on this, its a common problem. do a search and check out all the different opinions, im leaving mine, its been doing it without any problems since i bought the car.

my power steering was very noisy got a new power steering belt put on it and its like new again.

supposedly when you fix it with new pump, noise comes back again within 6 months, this true?
