Pre Polish prior to wax?

I've recently purchased some Autoglym HD wax and have yet to use it due to the poor weather.. however when I do get round to it, I was wondering whether you should polish the car and then finish with the wax? Upon reading stuff on the net it looks fairly mixed opinions, some saying not to bother, others saying you should etc.. Would be great if some of you guys could give your opinions! Cheers! Lewis.

Wax adds only a little to the finish, this comes from the polishing / glazing stage.

The durability will also be affected by the base that the waxes sits on, a nice clean base is great, one with bits of old waxes, dirt and grime will not bond very well. A nice easy prep would be autoglym super resin polish
