price as a result of cambelt snapping

as some of you know the other week my cambelt went, so bent the valves.

spoke to the mechanic and he's sendind the head off to be repaired change all belts and doing wotever is nessisary and relacing the water pump and doing a engine service. he quoted me £850.

i thought this was reasonable, wot do you guys think

Not to bad that as he will fit a new cambelt aswell which is a £500 iirc + a service is around £150 so your only actually about £200 out of pocket, although this won't seem like much of a consolation i presume.

Well back street/indepedant garages don't tend to use the locking tools and as they're aren't any timing marks on a F4R lump they're very rarely timed up spot on. Needs the crank locking tool, cam locking tool and the cam pulley locking too to get it right after that level of repair. And for the price i'd be gobsmacked if any of those have been used, if it feels flat as when you get it back you know why.

ok well thanks for your help il keep an eye out for that. he is a inderpendant garage, hes been a freind to my dad for about 30 years now and realy is as straight as they come. so im sure if its not right he'l wont have a problem sorting it again
