Of the insurance game when it comes to a 1*2

Cheapest quote i've founf for a 53plate 172 is like £3k :dapprove:

I'm 20, 2 years no claims and in a low risk insurance area.
Dont understand what the problem is?
I've tried flux, Green light wont even quote me, all the other usual insurers are the same.

Looks like i'll be bummin along in the 1.2 for a while...:(

Sorry to have a moan folks, just wondered who is in the same boat as me but managed to get insured?

Cheers, chris.

Add your mum as a named driver to the policy. Increase the excess a bit (beware though it'll already have some on it due to your age)

have a read of the guide at the top of the page mate. sounds a bit strange though.

Have you tried 'a plan'? what you driving now? Its probably because your under 21. Might be best doing what cat said and get your mum as main and being named on it

no worries, it is realy strange cos a few months ago i was getting quotes of £900-£1500 on a 54 plate ff182
now the insurance has shot up!

Does it normally fluctuate this much?

And will give bell a try =]

With the flux quote was it with the car standard or modded? Try getting a quote again but with an exhaust and IK or something, should defo bring it down.

bell has always been cheepest for me when iv looked for quotes for standard cars, but when it comes to mods they arnt as competative as flux!

Is your postcode definitely low risk? We live in a semi-rural area (open fields at the back, half mile from a main road, etc), but still get dry bummed as we are tagged with a Bolton postcode. Hence constant ring-sting.

Its a sad state of affairs (and the current times) as to why insurance is so bad these days. Personally, I hold insurers in such high regard. Alongside those other solid pillars of the community - paedos, mass-murderers and accountants.

Try without your mom on flux, I asked them and they said it doesn't make it go down and can increase it in some cases. also, did you use the online form thing or ring them? cos my quote was £500 cheaper when I rang them compared to online!

Performance direct with a parent on your insurance and i can guarentee you it will be cheaper than 2.2k

Thats not what she meant. As this is fraud. Usually by adding your mum as a named driver it brings the premium down a bit and its still legal because shes not the main driver, you are.

Again, he is going to be the main driver so putting himself on as a named driver is fraud

People get insured on them for 1.5-2K @ 19 with 1/2ncb mate so I would carry on searching.

Would you not consider a ph1 172 and insure it tpft, thats my plan. I'm looking to get it on 31st august because i get ncb on 30th and i'vbe been getting quotes off bell every couple of months and its around £1600-1700 tpft @ 19 with 1ncb and highish risk postcode.

I don't know why there are so many people who want to be in debt upto their eyeballs just so they can get a 172/182 at 19/20.

They are nice cars yes but at that age insurance is high for a reason. Why not be a little more sensible and get a 1.6 16v for a couple of years, you'll pay half the price of insurance and you are a lot less likely to wrap it around a tree or something similar.

Because having a 1*2 means you can track it without looking daft.

It's not about what car you drive it's about how you drive.
Drive like a tool in a 1.2 and it has the same epic fail outcome as driving a 1*2 like a tool. 78 horses or 182 horses you can still wrap a clio round a tree =]

It's all about what you enjoy, and i enjoy my car, some people p*ss £100 a week up the wall, i'd rather it go on my insurance and have something to show for it =]

not havin a go, just sayin mate, chris.

try elephant or egg! again as previously stated put ur old dear on the policy and raise the excess a bit!

alot of insurers wont look at you until your 21 but elephant should be ok. i was 21 when i got mine. only issue with them is their interest is high if your paying monthly.

FFS - that takes the piss. :dead:

If the weeners that were in control of the insurance industry could actually ban the "broke a toe-nail = £5k claim" mentality, then there would be the potential to reduce premiums accordingly.

The fact that anything more powerful than a waste disposal costs a new driver probably 80% of their wage to insure - clearly means that they are less likely to pay it.

As and when accidents happen, uninsured drivers get a slapped wrist and its the rest of us guillable f*****s who foot the bill. And the premiums go up next year to cover the losses. Or so they say.

I had my 1.4 16v for over a year but my sister needed a car and for the money she couldn't have got better, age and spec wise etc.
Sport has been my "reachable dream" car for a while now anyway.
And paying £100ish a month to enable me to drive it seems fairly reasonable :approve:

Plus I wouldn't get one myself if I thought I was a s**t driver tbfh

try brentacre im 20 with 1 yr ncb and im paying way less then that.

Da

  Less
Ah the joys of being old...

But on a serious note, those quotes seem ridiculous, what's your occupation as that can sometimes have a massive bearing on risk factor?
How many miles a year?
Is the car garaged, etc etc...?

There's so many factors to take into account, not just your age and location.

  200 Gordini
Put the excess up to 1k, mileage at 1000 miles a year and dont crash

Mum, dad, grandad etc on policy.

Car on driveway NOT garage!
