problem with engine and outter temp gage. help !

jus want to know what this could be as today my car has started doing it.
i always let the car warm up before moving it so the engine temp gage is at halfway when i leave my house but today as normal it was but then about 10 mins later after driving i put my foot down in second and the temp dropped off the bottom and the car ffelt underpowered then it hit the limiter at like 6000 rpm :S:S
what could this be ??
ive foned reno but their being bawbags as usual

Not too sure... wounldnt rely on the temp gauge to gauge the oil temp.... And isnt it best to drive the car then leave it idleing first thing in the morning? Might not be warm enough just idleing for 10 mins.

i did, i left it to warm up then drove it smoothly for 10 mins before booting it.
and it wasnt first thing in the morning lol.

and i forgot to mention that the outter temp gage seems to stay at either 7' or 9' ..... anyone near me know what theres show ? so i can rule this in or out. :S

enginge temp mayb a thermostat problem, if it isnt opening or closing properly but im not 2 sure.

Did the water temp gauge fall back down from warm to showing dead cold?

If so sounds like the coolant temp sensor problem, a common one going by threads on here.

Its a common on problem a failed temperature sensor.
Check your wiring a well Omars fixed his with some clips which keep the sensor wires staight.

Mine done that common fault the revs stayed at 2000rpm when i dipped the clutch as well they replaced a sender unit and a wiring loom and i think the thermostat it was in for 3 days so they could get the parts

yeah thats what the problem is - broken thermostat. also noticed now that the revs are staying at 2000rpm like matt says. its going in to reno tomoz. lets hope i get it back by monday.
