in november 2001 a 51 plate it was ok till i decided to open it when it was hot then it did nt stop rattling, well more of a squeak especially when going over bumps in the road. apart from that it was faultless and only decided to trade it in because i wanted a 172 and the free insurance ran out

well lets hope theyve solved the problem over the last 2 years! to be fair mines probably going to rattle like anything anyway once ive got my system hooked up, if not itll be so loud that i cant hear it anyway! im 18 now, if i keep the car for three years whats the likelihood of me being able to afford to insure a 172 if i have 3 years no claims?!

Ive got a Mk2 172 done 1400 miles and the washer bottle decided to crack!! dont know how or why as its right up by the windscreen.
Several people on here have had the same problem.

Ditto to the sun roof, they replaced mine 3 times, but never sorted the rattle/creak for more than a week or so!!
I hope the new ones are better too! I got an electric sunroof in my new one, but cant say I have heard it make any noise...hopefully!!!
I also had an electrical problem with my 2000 Clio Sport but that was sorted quickly.
Good luck - my mates just got one this weekend, but havent spoken to him about it as yet!!
the infamous passenger seat rattle drives me crazy!

Wheels were too small, so put 17s on
Suspension is too soft - so slam it 60mm
The stereo is sh*t, the dashboard and doors are made of some sort of italian cheese
My car was bought by my mum, and both the seats smelt of fanny sweat
But I dont mind that - its quite nice
The engine is powered by a small hamster, I called mine Mcf**k, who runs quite hard but the car is still under powered
When going up hills Mcf**k gets tired and I start rolling backwards
Theres no room for the 14 year old school boys in the back - they complain about the lack of room, and the size of my small penis
But I digress... basically the car is sh*t and not worth the money - the exhaust looks like a dogs dick hanging down, and I get beaten off the line by lincolnshire tractors...

My tire came off, slid off the road, went on 2 wheels, slid back on then onto a lane of on coming traffic, just missed a head on, 5 dyas after getting car, renault UK paid for new tire wheel and repairing scratch, as tire was underinflated ect!!! check them when u get it!!!
Problems..
Sunroof
Front seats wobble (passenger one now doesnt move forward or back)
Electrics hang out from under dash
Gearbox is sh*t
rubber windscreen surround started to come off
CD player skips
Cold start problems
Spark plugs went
w**kers drilled my numberplate onto car, resulting in rust spots
Rust on strut tops
I still quite like it though!

When i traded my 1.2 in i was 21 with 3 yrs no claims and tesco insured me and my dad as a named driver for £1200 fully comp on the 172
this year i have 4 yrs no claims and if i had not been banned it would have been £700 but instead its gone up £200 to £1422. Thank god for the student loan. 172 is defiantly worth it superb to drive

Ive had my 1.2 Dynamique for 10 months (11/02), and have done 18k miles with a service booked for Tuesday.
A great deal of those miles have been done at relatively high revs down a motorway... I live in Southampton and regularly drive to the Lake District and back to see my parents... generally speaking I dont think anything of jumping in the car and driving 200 miles, and in any case I think I drive it quite hard. Point Im trying to make is that it takes a thrashing!
No significant problems, and in all the car has proven to be very reliable indeed. In January the fuel guage stopped working properly which required a replacement sender unit and fuel pump. Since then the "miles remaining" on the computer has been blanked out ( "----" ) but I understand that this can only be remedied by replacing the instrument panel and hence resetting the milage so I cant be bothered.
Ive also had the sunroof handle replaced which seems to have fixed the infernal rattle!! However I sometimes get a rattle from behind the dash which bugs me. The drivers seat doesnt seem to "remember" my driving position which is annoying because we have a 3 yr old who sits in the back regularly. Ill get them to check this next week.
But in general Ive been very happy with it. Ive seen people knock the Clio for build quality, God knows what theyre comparing it to. Maybe BMW or Mercedes but definitely not Fiesta/Saxo/Corsa (see for yourselves!).

My missuss 03 1.2 16v Dyna. had had slight rumble at tickover since new ( it can be felt through the seats) its now got 3000 miles on and still does it but no other faults touch wood. I feel the squeaky/rattley (sp?) sunroof is not far away though, as having operated it a few times, its not exactly precision engineering is it?!!
