Project on the side - **Warning Ford content**

  Mk2 Escort
My uncle bought a gold 4 door a few weeks ago. Leather roof too!

good progress

We had a vinyl roof but it was hiding alot of rust. It wont be going back on ours.

Can't believe I've missed this.

Brilliant project.

Thanks alot

Just seen this Sam, looks a good project. Reckon by the time my boys are old enough my resto project with them will be my flower.

Something special about the mk 1 & 2 escorts tho. My grandad had a Mexico back in the day.

Thanks Paul, i think thats what makes these cars special to alot of people, either their dad, grandad, uncle, etc Probably had one back in the day. Everyone loves an old school Ford. My dad for example has had every model of Cortina there was bar a lotus. Something about Ford's which stick with you. Our household for example has, 2 fiestas, 1 mondeo, 1 escort and a saxo.

Believe it or not, progress has been made!

The engine has had the head rebuilt, and the bay has been sprayed.
Ive redone the engine loom and ran the wires low down in the bay as they usualy are high up.
We have a new manifold and pipe
Engine, clutch and box are back in.
Weve wired it up and it turns over so thats a big worry gone.
Battery is in the boot
Fuel tank is back in

Its gone from this state;

To this;

The inlet and manifold are just resting in place as i still need to paint more bits black.

After they are back on the todo list isnt that big;

Fit and secure battery cable and fuel lines
Fire up and tune engine (fit electronic ign)
Fit propshaft
Fit tyres to wheels
Re fit all lights etc and make sure they work
Refit grille and bonnet
Then a much needed wash and it near enough done.

The suspension will need dropping at some point to replace the top mounts but thats nothing major.

Hope you like, id like to have dropped a zetec in but its a cost that cant be justified yet. However it may happen in the future, for now its just been to restore the car and sort that stance.

Bloody hell this needs an update.
I'll keep it short. Old engine, seized.
New engine, cammed, bigger capacity, trick head, bike carbs. 130bhp

Gaz suspension all round.
Other bits you can see.
Soon to have a blow over, bumpers, brakes, diff and seats.

Thanks guys. Still a long way to go but it's on the road now so we are just enjoying it when we can. I'm getting married in July so progress has been slow as my attention and money is on that. Afterwards though, this is getting a lot more attention.

Thanks guys, not you Chris. Now you can get a full 2 door shell new I'd like to re shell it in a few years, build it proper.

Don't usually like 4-doors but that's superb, added to the that it's all your own doing. Kudos to you sir!

Amazing work dude, it looks (and I'm sure sounds) fantastic.

Nice wedding car! :wink:

I was genuinely looking for a mk1 escort as a wedding car the other day! Couldn't find anything worthwhile so gone with a different idea now.

Motorsport tools can get you one. 7k all in, alot if you wanted to build one from the ground up. But all my parts would transfer over, so 7k for a diy 2door mk2 is a bargain.

4doors have allways been hit and miss with people, personally i love 2 doors, but without 10/15k id never get an original, even so a mint 2 door id be scared to hoon about like i do in this.
Remember lads this car only cost us £900

Oooh!! I love that!! Great job there!! :cool:

Incidentally, the dude I mentioned over the page still has that Mk2 I mentioned, it's still 100% mint :up:

From a local meet. Snapped the throttle cable leaving though, it was to tight in the carbs and wasnt turning freely, after an embaressing tow home it's all sorted now.
Spent yesterday fitting all new gaz dampers, single leaf springs, front coilovers and a few new polyrace bushes. Safe to say it was needed.

Next I need to get all the parts to overhaul the brakes, all new lines, pedal box, wilwoods etc. But I may chuck a set of roll top seats in there to keep me busy. Once thats all sorted I can get the axle diffed up and get some smokey burnouts on the go. Then maybe ill look into a respray.... Maybe
