PS3 Delivered!

My Manager picked up this PS3 yesterday, through a guy that used to work with us, now working with Sony dealing with the PS3 roll out. Can't remember how much he pick it up for but anyway, he said he was bit disappointment with it as it couldn't even play Pro Evo 6.

This is because not all the old / new ps2 games will work on the PS3 without a software doneload. Saying that he said he downloaded a GT demo which was "out of this world"

There is a list of games that will/won't work (link below), the download for 1.6 will be enabled at midnight tonight apparently. Sony claim 1700 work but most are duplicated games and many are highlighted as having issues.

GT HD Concept is a free downloadable game from the playstation store. Excellent game shame there is only one track.... I wont spoil the choice of cars for you.

The 1.6 firmware upgrade is out, downloaded at lunch, for the UK console it will allow better BC. So get your boss to try that Jimmy!

If they had like gta, gran turismo c and c coming out for it on release day i would buy one and think sod the cost but the games on it at the moment dont seem to special to me.

Compare the PS3 to a similarly specced 360 and the diff really aint that much ie probably no more than the diff between an 360 and a Wii

But you get a choice the 360, if you don't want a HD drive you don't have to buy one. With the PS3 you have to buy everything and pay the full amount, regardless of what you might use.

There is also no guarantee that the Blu-Ray DVD player is actually really good compared to what will be available sooner or later. Remember the DVD player in the PS2? Absolutely terrible even when compared to a reasonably cheap stand-alone player.

According to all the dedicated home cinema / hi-fi mags the player in the PS3 offers better picture quality than all the 1st generation standalone players, not sure if it supports hdmi v3 or is upgradeable, not sure whether it supports all the new hd audio outputs either but for picture quality no worries

finally some people with sense posting, indeed, similarily specced 360 (although still not as good) is more expensive and if you are going next gen gaming then why shouldnt you go next gen movies by going high def, high def gaming, high def tv, logical to go high def films.

As for the bluray drive being poor, as has been said above its supposed to be one of the best on the market at the moment, the dvd drive in the 360 is very good also, people will never forget the ps2 rubbish even though it was a one off.

Sure, its expensive but in no way is it overpriced(imo) considering a blu-ray player cant be bought for less than £1000 (as far as im aware) id say that this is an exceptionally cheap blu-ray player with a helluva games console thrown in free, thats the way i look at it.

It may be no good but its a first generation player, even the dvd players in Lidl for £15 are just as good as the first dvd players to appear on the market, blu-ray technology isnt fully developed yet.

Sure the x-box is good but many people are slating the ps3 before they have even seen one never mind played one, i firmly believe this will take gaming to the next level.

It had bloody better, ive bought a 40" tv to play it on and im taking tomorrow and next week off work to play it so it's costing me a fortune.

im not a fan of the ps3, but i am gettin one. if you have the money it is actually a good price for what you are getting. it looks expencive as its one big lump of money. but as proved above about the 360, it looks cheap compared but the price bumps up when buying parts. i do believe the ps3 online community will never match the 360. can any say whether ps3 has achievments, because that was a great scheme by microsoft

You can get the HD DVD add on for £99, and why pay £59.99 for a Wi Fi adaptor when you can get a ethernet patch cable for £6 (admittidly, not as flash as Wi Fi but does the job!). I've also seen the premium packs for as little as £240 so that knocks off about £127 off the above. In reality, you can get a similarly specc'd 360 for much less than the PS3!

yeh they are saying roughly the same as the ps3, so that still doesnt mean nothing. and it still doesnt have hugely great upgraded internals to match the ps3. what can you use 120GB on a games console? and it still wont be true 1080p. + more no WIFI etc. im a huge 360 fan, i would still take the 360 over the ps3 anyday.

• The Elite will cost $479 and will be sold alongside Premium and Core packs.
• Eventually, a white version of the Elite will replace Xbox 360 Premium packs. Presumably, this will happen shortly after the Elite is sold out. Once this happens, Premiums will include the 120 GB HDD and HDMI.

Thats about £250 quid

360 already has 1080p support nowadays was a firmware update and a lot of the new games already support 1080p now

I agree the release prices were different, but when buying now, my post reflected the prices on offer to the consumer which is what its all about. My point is you cannot say that today, a same spec (roughly) 360 costs as much as a ps3...

i couldn't use an ethernet cable to over the other side of my flat and i'm sure a lot of people are in a similar situation, then theres still the lack of HDMI and crappy small 12gb hdd that the 360 gets!
