Put a decat on your cars! What a difference

Car  182 Cup, DC2, E500
I have an RS192 on the vehicle, and decided to get the matching Scorpion decat pipe.

Fitted today with a new Renault fitting kit, Renault rear clamp and a lovely little lambda spacer to keep the rear CMS from the exhaust gas.

What can I say. I am absolutely amazed with the difference!

From the off, the note of the exhaust is deeper and sounds sooo much more meaningful! Wow.

And the performance! Well, it feels significantly torquey everywhere, from low down right the way up.

At high speed the engine just sings! Wow, what a pull!

I urge you to unleash the beast with a decat. Get the rear spacer I got and you should remain MIL free for somewhile.

Fantastic bit of kit....well chuffed!

do you need a tissue?

Tissue bud I think he needs a towel ..... Any nice massive flat spots?? I like the sound of my 172 with a decat I love a loud car but the flat spots are crap .... If I could be bothered the cat would have gone back in months ago

Interesting from you guys. No placebo for me, being ruining my cars for years lol.

I've kept the old CAT which looked really clean actually.

If I find an issue I can always pop it back on.

I know 110% the car drives better than what it did without it.

I'll gauge the performance over the next week or so, but I am very pleased with the product. Just hope it doesn't start leaking...

I've got the same exhaust system and got a de-cat pipe but where the de-cat meets the centre section I've got a nightmare situation where I can stop the exhaust blowing, have you got it?? If not then how did you solve it??

I got a new genuine Renault clamp and fitted it with some Wurth exhaust sealant. Whether it works or not I have no idea but will find out!

Imprezaworks, sorry fella not having a dig, just posting up my opinion for other community members to read/learn. Apologies if you took it the wrong way, I know my cars chap!

Like I say, so far in my opinion it seems to be positive all round (no flat spots I felt, dare I say the ones that may have been there actually disappeared!)

I have a Yozza and have always contemplated getting a decat, but then I value my hearing later on in life! :P

This is exactly what I'm thinking.

Would love to do it so thinking just after MOT time i might but a de-cat, try it and then see how loud it is and pop the CAT back on.

I kinda agree with the op, when I decatted mine it felt more torquey throughout the entire rev range, and seemed to rev more freely.

Some of my friends (who are in my car regularly) also said that it felt more torquey too

My problem with a loud clio for example is that they don't go like they sound. Feel a bit silly making all that noise with a standard saloon up your chuff.

If it made a big difference then your cat was clogged up or was a bad replacement one that didnt flow properly.

^^Excellent logical answer chip, rather than the usual bunch of plonkers flaming the guy cause they're too cool for skool.

Ain't no one flaming me fella, believe it.

Logical answer chip, incidentally peering into my cat showed it to be immaculate.

The car has genuinely pepped up for me. It was a well worthwhile component and I am chuffed with it.

Its either blocked somewhere you cant see it, or its a nasty aftermarket replacement one that doesnt flow as well as the original 182 one does.

Agreed that constructive input is probably fairer than just calling someone an idiot etc. but...

People aren't disagreeing cause they're "too cool for skool." They're disagreeing because there has been thread upon thread decats all concluding that you loose a massive 1 or 2 Nm high up and loose about the same low down (there was a big thread from Cup_Phil last year with lots of arguments ending in dyno runs IIRC). Whether it gains nigh-on-nothing or looses nigh-on-nothing, the point is that it isn't some magical mod that transforms the car in the way some people say.

Its like when people replace a clogged up standard filter with a cone filter and think its way better, yes it is but so would a new standard one be.

See it all the time TBH, in fact even some of the magazines are quite bad for it, no good doing a before and after test with one item old and clogged up and the other brand new, but then they would have to buy a new standard one too not just use the readers old one on the car borrowed for the test etc!
Personally I wont do any tests for any mags unless they are genuine and fair but most journos have no such scruples or simply dont know any better.
