Putting original exhaust back on that was cut in half?

  Now: 350Z; Before: Trophy
All,

I've a Trophy that I am retuning to stock.

I currently have a Janspeed on the car but am now putting the original cat-back system onto the car.

When Janspeed fitted the aftermarket unit they cut the original pipe of the exhaust.

How does one go about putting this back on? I took the car to a couple of garages but they wanted £90+VAT to put the original exhaust back on and suggested putting a sleeve around the two joins (but then stated the pipe is bigger than normal). Another company suggested welding (but was later advised not to).

Has anyone been through this before? I want to ensure this is done 100% properly and that no corners are cut - but at the same time don't believe this is a difficult job!

If anyone knows of a garage in London that has done this before it would be greatly appreciated...

Cheers

either a sleeve with clamps or welding it is a permanent proper job, either will be fine???

I had a sleeve welded to one piece and then clamped together when on the car. Looks ok, no leaks, took about 45 mins.

Halfords sell pipe brackets which cover both pipes like a sleeve check the size of them there only cheap.

Thanks everyone. I'll see if I can get it done this weekend. £50 seems right but at the moment I've only had quotes for over £90 :( The joy of living in London...

This exhaust is the last thing I need to do before I swap over to a Porsche 996 so it is very frustrating!

Thanks again for the input.

On the 172 there is such a sleeve between the rear silencer and mid section. If this fitted why not do it yourself, bit of exhaust sealant (£3) and bob's your uncle.

Renault do a sleeve kit for the 182 exhaust system.

As they had so many warrenty claims on the back boxes etc.

I think its about 20 quid from Renault. Fits perfectly.

That's interesting FMP... I asked Renault Minute but nothing came to mind. I'll drop them a line and see if they've one in stock.

Thanks again :)

This advice was really good :)

The part number for this sleeve for future reference of anyone wanting one is 7703083398.

My two cents donation to the forum (in addition to my £5...) ;)

Cheers
