Queiter exhaust ?

  immaculate clio 172
Morning all
My 2005 clio 182 has a miltek cat back system fitted by previous owner due to original system rusting away

I personally find it too loud and quite intrusive particularly as its my daily car for running to work plus occasionally my 2 year old daughter comes in the car

Looking at the system it appears to have a centre and rear silencer box so assume its a resonated system?

It's not actually that loud really but im older and booring so any tips on making it quieter or does anyone have a immaculate standard 182 system they want to swap for my miltek?

My system is like new as less than 2 years old

I very much doubt you'll find an immaculate 182 system buddy. The rust like hell. I'd be looking at a pattern part, then flogging the miltek on.

Miltek and scorpion are probably the quietest ones for these and if you have your cat and centre silencer in then either standard/pattern part or custom exhaust is your options.

Thanks for advice there
I have a powerful dealer local to me so I might pop in there and see what he suggests!

As I said earlier its not tht loud really but louder than standard

Going pattern is a lottery IMHO and IME. I know Clio exhausts like to rust but at least the genuine items last a few years. Most pattern items on a 172 anyway last around a year, maybe almost 2 tops with them being louder than a genuine item.

I recall a friend's 172 on a 'Timax/Arvin Meteor' item being louder than my Proflow exhaust'd Clio, hanging below the bumper (the fitment was shocking) and with him through 2 of them within 3 years and issues between then (hangers breaking off the exhaust etc.). A few years ago he went to a genuine item and we were once again greeted by the sweet sound of silence :).

If it were me I'd either go for a new genuine item or for a custom stainless exhaust. However, most places will try in straight through boxes since they are easier and cheaper to work with, which may not get you the desired result.

Go custom? they can make it as quite or loud as you want

Depends. While my Proflow exhaust is quieter than a number of 172 exhausts it is still not as quiet as a genuine item, as show on this RR video and that is with it running 3 silencers and the cat:

In that video which admitedly is not that representative of the exhausts the the cars are running the following:
Black 182 - Miltek Cat Back
Clio 172 53 plate - Genuine backbox with pattern centre - He's owned that for 5 years now.
Clio 172 03 plate - stock (pattern) centre (I think from the receipts) with a Proflow rear section and 2 tail pipes - the previous owner asked for them to make it as quiet as they could, but done for longevity.

Genuine new Will be big bucks. Not worth it IMO.

How much is big bucks? I can appreciate that a 172 system is cheaper than a 182, but the guy with the 172 in the video above paid around £90 for the back box, as opposed to £40 a pop a pattern part twice in 2-3 years.

Thanks for all replies chaps
Going to speak to the powerflow guy and see if he can weld in an additional centre box or similar :)

Still also want to get the car booked onto rolling road out of curiosity more than anything
Seems to go well enough for what it is so hopefully make the right numbers
