Questions - 1.6 Dynamique - 2003

  Shed.
Well, decided that the 172 was a great car, but i just cant do it, i could, but id have to be a nincumpoop to do it lol. Now im asking about the 1.6. The 1.6 would be the BIGGEST engine i would get due to fuel and other expenses, but it turns out i can get on a 1.6 pretty comfortable as far as the insurance goes. So i might try my luck.
-Again, id be buying the car straight off. So answer the following questions please, or else......:rasp:

I know not many of you have a 1.6 as they seem to be about as rare as rockinghorse s**t.

TAX Year ?

Miles to the tank/MPG?

Tyres Each Estimate(respecting that itd be on std. Dynamique alloys)

Anyways, im looking at a 1.4 tbh as i can easily get one without much trouble, but i am interested to know what the 1.6 would set me back.

Cheers ppl. <3

1.6s aren't that rare really, just the 1.2 16v is so popular it seems to make the others seem fewer and far between.

Tax, well its not as good as a DCI (£35 for a whole year) and they can be good on fuel, you just really have to feather the throttle. If your after fuel economy, 1.5 DCI 65bhp is the way to go.

Continental Contact Sports for 15" can be anything around the £50 mark. They're a good tyre aswell, it'll stick to the road like glue but they're proper soft, so don't last long if you give it the large one round B road roundabouts.

I have a 1.6 Dymanique+.

The tax is £125 for a year.

She does roughly 30-35 mpg Urban and roughly 40-45 long runs (depending on how hard you right foot is).

I'm on 16" wheels and can't remember what the standard 15" Contis were. My tyres are Conti sports contacts and they cost me £294 for 4 from Kwik Fit a year ago. (They were on special offer at the time).

yep tax 125
mpg well..... depends how u drive but ive had it as far up as 55mpg on a long run but over 40 easy

tyres - on 15s so will be cheap

  172
tax - £125
mpg - 34 min round town for me and then motorway 42+
tyres - havent owned it long enough to buy some

remember the insurance group varies on the 1.6 dependant upon year
some are group 8 some are group 10 - like mine :(

Tax has been stated above. My fuel costsaround £37 a fill up and thats me for about 300-350 miles depending on how ive driven, so its not that much difference in comparison with the 1.2 on fuel. I'm 18 and insurance is £900 p/y

Just get a DCI 80.

Nah mate, not deisel for a kick off. Also, i want something with a bit more va va vroom. I dont drive like an idiot anymore, but i wont deny that its fun to floor it when theres no one about now and again. Allthough, imho, i dont do it that much now.

Insurance would cost me £1200 on my own, so im not fussed tbh, thats not a lot per month, somehting like 120 for 11 months. Aside from the insurance theres not much difference between the 172 and the 1.6 ;) power wise is obvious.

Btw, on that note. Is the 1.6 fun ?

gazbenger

Howd you get it to £900 ? especially at 18.

right excelent. Ill save then and i should eb able to afford one of these, i cant see that i will be raped by it and i can also afford to save dosh for the mot and service too.

Little tip, don't over do it with the hosepipe in the passenger side front wheel arch... they don't like it :)

My 1.6 refused to start and eventually spluttered into life everytime I went overboard in that arch, other owners have reported the same :)

1.4 and 1.6 are basically the same engine (apart from the obvious difference lol) so generally any reliability issues or common faults are the same on both cars, so if your thinking about a 1.4 16v i wouldnt bother, just go for the 1.6 16v.

it may only seem like 10bhp difference but the extra torque would be better, you would probably wish you went for the 1.6 within a month anyway lol.

ive never had a shot of a 1.4 or 1.6 16v before but they came standard with the "Sports Suspension" not sure what was different though. the steering is supposed to be much better than it is on the 1.2 16v (quite light, infact some would say too light!)
my mums got a standard 1.2 16v, with budget tyres, nothing special and in my honest opinion, for a standard car it handles brilliant! the rear end gets a bit light and bouncy when your on long sweeping corners but nothing a set of eibachs wouldnt sort!

Yeah, the suspension and steering on the 1.6 is far better than the 1.2, apparently the steering on the PH3 1.2 was revised to make it heavier than the PH2.

Older revision of the lump so it kicks out more CO g/km basically. Erm the Ph2 is group 8?

Love mine, had it over a year and i'm not bored yet which is surprising i'll be keeping it until i'm 20 and then its time for an RS all being well.

Not bored of this noise yet either: http://media.putfile.com/Clio-16-16v-Simota-IK

I never have that problem:S

Me neither?

id be looking at 03/04 models, respecting the availablility of the car on pistion heads, or i might even go to a dealer if theres nothing about.

When my car was bone standard, through 2nd and 3rd it was glued to the bumper of my mates 1.6, into 4th while he was still in 3rd so he started to pull away progressively.

Now though is a diff story...:)

Mines an 03 reg and is a group 8. I can honestly say I haven't had the problem with it not starting after giving the wheel arches a good hose down. As for fun factor, I find mine is lots of fun and I really don't have to thrash it to get it to shift either. I don't think you'll be disapointed if you get a 1.6.

Aye, in about november time, allthough IMO i could go out and buy one sooner if i really wanted. theres not alot of difference between the 1.4 and the 1.6 by the looks of things so i may as well

Well although you are planning to get one later, if you can afford one now might as well do it if you see a good example pop up for sale. ;)

well ironicly, theres one in town near me for sale going for about £6k. Bit much considering i could get a 172 for that price. i think id go to 5.5k at the tops.

Will keep ym eye on it. Just the imsurance factor, when im 19 ill be on fire and ready to be insured, at a sensible price.

That looks rather nice. Good mileage, full MOT and service history. The 1.6 seems to be holding it's price at the moment, but just because it's a trade car it doesn't mean you have to pay what they are asking you know. There is always room for haggling. I only paid full price for mine from new because it was almost 2k cheaper than anywhere else and I thought it would be abit cheeky to haggle. ;)

^ Thats steep for 30k and no air con.

It's only 3 years old though, and 30k isn't high mileage on a 3 year old car, plus it does come with some warranty as well. Like I said, there is always room for haggling too. ;)

Has to be worth a test drive I reckon.

Oh and, does the air con really matter? I have air con but have only used it about 3 times in the 4 years I've owned mine.

  Breaking A 172 Replica
Thats nice but it is bloody expensive!

I would be looking to pay around 4600 for a good one with those miles and that age.

As for fuel economy, as others have said it entirely depends on how you drive it.

If you give it death expect around 25mpg but if you drive like a granny expect 40+.

Tyres - expect to pay 50-60 fitted.

I'd payed that a year ago for mine with only 20k on it and more toys from a renault dealer. I'd want it around 5.5k or lower really.

You have to remember it's a trade car so it will obviously me marked up price wise. I have also seen 03 reg private ones selling for roughly the same price and they have been sold really quickly. If it has a full years warranty that has to be worth £200 anyway.

Those miles and that age? That's pretty average mileage for any 3 year old car. Being as it is only 3 years old it is probably only just out of Renault warranty too, but it mentions it comes with warranty. Personally speaking if I was looking for one I would go along and see what it's like, see how much warranty they are offering and see how far you can knock them down. If they are not willing to budge then you can always walk away.
