Because there were no Cups registered in 2001.

52 Plates at the earliest i believe, i think you may be having your pisser pulled

might have had a plate transfer or something

briefly, i'd check for the usual with a car of its type (accident damage/abuse, etc); then for stuff like leaky dampers, snapped springs, crunchy gearbox, etc. not being dismissive, but have a search as there's a fair bit on here about what to look for. good luck with it

The clocks have been changed and as there is no lock on the drivers door it's more likely to be an 03 / 53 plate.

Yet he's listed it as a 2001 / 51 plate... if it has got a 51 plate on it then it's got the wrong identity. Or it's a private plate which he doesn't know about!

is ther any other way of noticing if its a cup ?????

It's definately a cup... But as stated, they never made them in 2001 and if they did they would of had a lock on the drivers door... so he's either made a mistake when listing it (twice!) or is got the wrong plate on it and i'd steer clear!

Ask him for the reg plate and do an hpi check.

done a hpi check but it doesnt say a model just a clio 2 litre

anyone know of a hpi check site which will tell me the model ?????

I'd just forget about it.

It's too much work to rep a Cup... no point imo. So it clearly is a Cup but has the wrong plate on it.

I'd steer clear... when i car is too cheap to believe there's normally issues!

im sorry mate :(

i dont know enough about clios when we went to look at it, it is in good condition.

Shame it seemed a nice exsample, shame it sounds so dodgy

Saying all this, i'd speak to the seller... he has good feedback on ebay so he may not be the dodgy one... he may be a innocent party and has bought the car from someone dodgy... he actually thinks it's a 51 plate so has priced it accordingly.

Cups have a VIN that starts like this VF1CB1NDF
This is a normal 172 VF1CB1NOF
This is how I checked my recent buy.
As for being cheap I think its the right price or there abouts, I paid about half of what this one is advertised for, with issues of course.

thats all the car is worth , no service history ??? i nearly bought a 2004 the other day with 55k on and lots of mods for £3200 ,
