Quick 1.8 speedo & temp sensor q....

Hi, my valver appears to idle really badly and, after reading some previous posts, people say it can be down to the speedo cable (ive got a new ISCV etc and the box i had last week has agrevated the situation) BUT;

...this will seem dumb but by "speed" do you mean the speedometer or the rev counter cable? The reason i ask is that my rev counter sometimes sticks so not sure what itd down to....

Also, my temp sensor is broken, does anyone know how much renault will take to replace both (roughly)?

Thanks!

:oops:

temp sensors from renault are about 15 each. The speedo cable only needs replacing when it idles at 1500rpm after taking it above 4500. Check lambda sensor.

Sorry - meant the temp sensor on the passenger mirror! :oops:

As for the idling prob, the car has had new lambda, new ISCV, new coolant sensors etc so it must be the speedo cable. It does sometimes do as you say (idle at 1500 after going above 4500) though but im still unsure. maybe the TPS needs adjusting?

Just trying to get an idea of prices....

Thought they were the same cable mate !!

Dont think external temp guage/sensor does anything. Mine reads all sorts of silly temps cos the sensors knackered but my engine runs fine. If your speedo works then it wont be that unless the connector behind the clocks has come off/broke/potentiometer knackered. Rev counter is electronic. If this sticks I can only think its down to the actual needle sticking.

exterior temp sensor has nothing to do with engine running.rev counter is from an electrical pulse from the coil pack.rev counter problems could be a sticky gauge,faulty coil or a poor connection somewhere between the two.speedo cable has an electronic speed sensor on the instrument panel end which gives the ecu a vehicle speed signal.
