Quick Amateur Detail On Unprotected Golf 7R

Don't normally but thought I'd take a few pics and do a thread for this.
I haven't protected this since I bought it which is a disgrace really, but you can see from the pics how hard it is to clean when there is no LSP.

Some of the products used:

Before shots:

Started with bilt hamber on the wheels and a thorough snow foaming with AF. Twice.

After snow foaming. Basically nothing comes off when unprotected:

Then thorough wash (2bm) with AF shampoo.
Washed twice due to so much crap.

Then my fav product:

(Was a new bottle)

During:

Massive bit of tar..

Came off after wiping.

Then throughly rinsed a few times.
Went round with some AG Tar remover on a couple of stubborn spots. All good.
Then claying..using the mitt and shampoo water as lube and then bilt hamber clay on harder to reach areas.

Then rinsed.

Next up was a quick polish by hand with AF Tripple.

Then finally applied a layer of Dodo Juice Supernatural Hybrid. Left to cure for an hour or so whilst I did the interior and windows, tyres etc..

Then buffed off with bouncers done and dusted (best smelling product ever)

Afters:

Literally left for Manchester straight after that. 1 hour later...

4.5hours later.

I thought its not bad for a spray on wipe off sealant. Easy to use and pretty well lasting.

Yeah white is bullshit in every way. I won't buy a white car again.
Impossible to see where you've waxed already and once it's all done it never looks that good anyway!

I will be ceramic coating it when I can get inside somewhere to do it!

Thanks I wouldnt say rare...Blue and Red are most common and then White after that. Silver is most rare.

I'm amazed so many went for blue to be honest, it's too dark and hides the lines.

I regularly see a black one by the docks where I go walking/cycling, it looks so s**t!!

Looks good as above, for the 10 minutes it stayed clean (5min more than Black :smiley

Yeah i agree. Seen a few black and they are crap.
A lot went for blue because of the early press shots which showed Lapiz to be much much lighter than it actually was!
Have you seen a silver one yet? Looks properly awesome. Wished i got it!
I drove my mappers mapped DSG too and im glad i got a manual

I've seen what I think was LSG, but not sure - was on the motorway but looked sublime!

Yeah the blue is a weird one - I think people went for it a lot due to it being unique for the R, but meh never saw the appeal personally.

Interesting - what made you prefer it? Not driven a manual, but having had other manual cars (all my previous), I'm still convinced DSG was the way to go (for me at least). For me I like the laziness when I want it, and then the paddles when on a spirited drive but don't think it's too "uninvolved" without a real gearstick (though if on track I can see why it'd be boring, though also has it's own uses (speed of change etc)).

Well when booting it in a straight line, yeah its slightly faster but that seamless change detracts from the turbo feel of the car and makes it feel much less exciting. And then when i got to a corner and some roundabout it felt as though i was totally disconnected from the chassis which i feel a clutch and manual gearbox ties you into. Was weird tbh. But each to their own

Ha, yeah they do a touch more. Depends how you drive! and yeah they are a nightmare. Im going to get the dremel and autosol on them next week. Should bring them back to new again.

Thing is, now it's cleaned and protected, a power-wash off will probably clear 9/10 of that dirt. Smother it in foam and rinse it off with an open hose and you're sorted. No need to wash or even dry !

Mine are in need of a Dremel I think. I used to do them two or three times a week but novelty worth off 18months later!

I did try and complain to Audi about them pitting, I said it was exhausts fault and it shouldn't stain. They said it was my fault for been too heavy footed, too lazy when cleaning and due to the fact they've just fitted a new clutch for me who was I to argue!

I have seen haha, I think it sets it off nicely! I just wish more golfs had the 'other' wheels VW offered. on white your wheels look good but any other colour and they get lost Imo
But hey, who am i to say anything, well out of my league :astonished:
