R27 broken...

  250
Noticed when driving home last night a noise (sounded like something flapping under the car or a stone caught in the tyres), so ignored it till this morning.

Just checked it again after making sure there were no nails or stome caught in the tyre, and found the front right wheel covered in oil or something.

Further inspection reveals that the front shock upright is coverd in oil (unlike the front left), as is the wheel arch. The ride has also got dead hard.

My only guess is that i ether have a bust shock or a bust shock & spring.

What do you think?
Warranty job?
Safe to drive to the dealer in the morning?

Thanks for your help

(car has only done 2k)

Mine went on the 182, they replaced it the next day for me, warrenty jobbie, just be careful over bumps etc

Why don't dealers like doing warrenty work? Surely they get paid for it?

depends if its a franchised dealer, such as Sunwin.
if it is they have to claim from Renault after the job has been done so if they think it might not be claimed back they will try not to do it.

Its a big lump of mechanical parts, things break!

Yes things do break, but 2k miles on a damper really isn't acceptable. Where's the quality control procedure? Or is that something lacking in France? On a £15k car you should expect better, even if it's French.

Just don't mention burst shocks to rory182...

thats unfortunate... however it should be relatively painless to get repaired under warranty.

I always wondered what renault would do if the same thing happened to a new 182 Trophy... would they have issued a new car due to the lack of spare shocks?

Not everything on a car is faultless no matter what the mileage....it just depends when these problems decide to appear!

Unlucky you've had a duff shock fitted to your car....im sure it'll be easily fixed though.

unlucky really..... lets hope its not a reoccurring fault and just a one off... its not really acceptable but must have been a manufacturing defect in a seal for example, these things do happen.....

and to think i was furious when my rear shocks went at 36k!!!!

absolutely unacceptable on a new car

LOL at 'Unacceptable'

as far as i am concerned... and i'm sure many agree... it is by far unacceptable

As mentioned previously, everything is given a shelf-life... but to not get anywhere close to the estimated life of that part by FAR is a poor show. I agree things break yes... but again where the hell is the Quality Assurance AND Quality Control??

Mine went for some warrenty work and they said one of my shockers had leaked and they replaced it under warrenty. I think the car was about 12 months old.
