I'm going to be insured with the RAC next month and get the breakdown cover in with it so its good to hear its worth having.

working for RAC atm selling breakdown cover, you wanna go for RAC way better than AA and specially greenflag etc if you look on the website and ring in you get web discount which is about 20% I think...

  Chocolate Bar™
the AA were substancially cheaper for my family under their family plan. had the RAC before and was quite disappointed with them on two of their callouts.

bloody 172's are always breaking ;)

It's 89£ a yr and i know for a fact renault would have charged about that!!!!! I must have soaked a sensor somewhere! Coz it triggered the car in to Limp mode.

Emissions light is bak on now tho! LOL...Damn it.

What makes the RAC way better then AA?

I am with the AA as I got reasonable discount with another car club I am in.

ive had plenty good experiences with the AA.
and as i now work beside greenflag i know it has dramatically improved.

emissions light is the exhaust playing up OR too much high speed, so what do you think? :rasp:

wheres that road trip vid? :rasp:

Ok for starters if you have roadside relay or relay plus whatever it is, say you break down 100's miles from ure house and you want ure precious rs taken back to your preferred garage back home or to your house so u can do it ureself...

with the AA you will have to change van on every county border (hence relay) so say u live in cornwall and ure car breaks in scotland, thats gonna be a lot of transfers! hope it isn't raining...

with RAC they'll tow or transport your car all the way in the same van no matter how far it is non-stop (obviously driver has to stop for rest breaks etc) so no faffing around at service station in the cold waiting for the next AA van to appear...

Haha and don't even start me on greenflag, just few points though:

Greenflag use contractors from local garages who:
a) Will charge you labour after the first 30-60mins
b) Could be any dodgy weird pedo in a white van, you have no idea who is pulling up behind u (especially a point if your wife or gf breaks down on her own)
c) Will want to get you back to their garage as soon as so they can start charging you labour + parts to make as much money out of you as poss

AA and RAC patrols don't get paid extra and will not charge extra no matter how long they have to stay with your car by the roadside also both drive recognisable vans so you know its them pulling up not some dodgy white-van-man

Hmm generally the pricing is about the same for both, What package did you go for under the AA?

  Valver
Oh and just to top it off, greenflag fix around 52% of vehicles by the roadside compared to 82-83% for AA and RAC, why do you think that is ;)

  Valver
Yeah but greenflag is an insurance based policy so they will assess you on the risk, also have been known to refuse cars over about 10/11 years old.

I would check how many callouts you get and what level of service ud receive, I think ull be suprised when compared to RAC ;)

Maybe if your rep skills went a bit further he'd have known already mate lol...

Lol ok one more point about AA to swing every1 to RAC ;)

If you clip the kerb and damage your wheel so you need to be towed or have an accident yourself, AA will not cover you and will charge you anything from £100+ to recover and tow your vehicle. RAC have accident care and will cover you even if it was your fault ie clipped the kerb etc

sami ... your so so so wrong about green flag.
every single bit of information you gave was totally wrong. lol
greenflag ask where you want to go and will take you there (be it home or wotever garage you want), will not charge you extra, will get out to you quicker than AA, they dont drive white vans - they drive big green vans, unlike AA who DO put it out to contractors and to top it off greenflag fix 86% at the roadside. they also employ the most staff so you can get through on the phones straight away unlike RAC and AA(being on hold for ages). ill come back with more points after work tomorrow as they are owned by RBS whom i work for.

lol ok ok ... it just pisses me off when people give incorrect or biased information. i do myself go with AA and personally think RAC and greenflag are both better ... but AA cover is free.

  e60 M5 -172- dciheid
^^ fair does iv got Gflag cover under my DL policy and Gflag were fine when i had them on my corsa as well, so fair enough.

You were getting a little irate son!

  Valver
Ok the 56% wasn't greenflag my bad read the info wrong that was other smaller companies so apologies! Also yes GF do have their own vans...However ;) ...

Its actually 80% for greenflag same as RAC and AA, their response time (as per their website) is 40 minutes so also same as RAC and AA. They also use contractors same as AA and RAC for times when they are busy and cannot spare a patrol van so to stop customers waiting they send out a man from a local garage. RAC only used approved garages though not sure about AA or GF.

They still sell an insurance based product though, so depending on your history, your age, your car, the make and how old it is etc will vary your premium unlike AA or RAC who offer a flat-rate so even if you use all your callouts the cost is the same. Obviously can work better either way but if you have a flat battery a few times watch what happens to your premium ;)

GF do not cover RTAs or own fault damage ie clipping the curb so you will have to fork out for that one, RAC will recover you for that though, as part of your policy ;)

I think you'll also find there is a limit on their onward travel of about £100, whereas RAC or AA there isn't a cap on how far they will take you.

Oh and one more thing, according to their T&Cs they will start charging you labour after a 'reasonable time' at the roadside, wonder who decides that...

  172 cup'd extreme
RAC have not been able to fix my car ANYTIME they have come out rubbish at that although they have recovered my car everytime on a special flat bed as they can fit my car on as my car is too low for normal ones. had 4 callouts this year 11 last year all for £90

  182 has now gone!
I am with RAC and have not had any probs with them so far.. The wheel bearing went on my old car, they came out within 30 mins and fixed it on the roadside, then he followed me all the way home to make sure I got home safely. :)

  Chocolate Bar™
if you ring up the AA and quote what the RAC quoted u, they will do it cheaper everytime, hence how i got my policy so cheap, the RAC were unwilling to move. Also the AA covers most new cars i know my g/fs vauxhall came with AA cover, her dads new civic and my dads punto, so they must be doing something right lol

  Valver
I think really AA+RAC are pretty much the same, there are few little differences, mainly accident cover which would swing it for RAC imo but obviously people get discounts etc both better than GF thou :p
