Rally car Refresh

So its about time this car made its way into the project thread on Cliosport.net

Ill let Ali fill you in with the history later, but for now im gonna bring you up to speed with what has been going on lately in the MSS Workshop

roughly summer time 2009 the car got a refresh paint wise, just to lighten it up, stickers and rubbing barrels and bails takes its toll.

so it was looking like this summer

obviously theres a panel or two missing but you get the idea.

then some one decides to attack the first stage of otterburn, in the fog with a different co-driver to usual. first stage and he has rolled it onto the fell :mad:

at least the grass is soft, it rolled several times but only suffered light damaged, most panels dented and a very very slight bend here and there.

the car got parked in the workshop and forgot about for a while, Ali has had other plans.
good job really i have his ecu :rasp:

project strip and replace started, i missed pics at the start of this but you aint missed much

roof skin has been replaced with non sunroof skin
lightweight doors replaced with sport doors with electric windows (was getting sick of no creature comforts :rasp:)

then we started to pull the rear quarter off

Awesome though :D

we raise it a little compared to tarmac setup but this bit certainly helps it slide along

Todays Progress
even if it is without pictures for now (left camera at work :( )

roof, and rear quarter all welded on now

and joins ground back, fillered and rubbed down ready for primer

theres just the OSF headlight area to finalise and its ready for paint.

after the weekend he can have his ecu back out of my car and then it will be able to drive to the spray booth :rasp:

looks great mate. when you expeting it to be back in action ?

Action is the Xmas stages at Croft on the 2nd of Jan 2010 so finger is well and trully pulled out.
Once the painting is done shouln't take to long to build her back together.

Here's the spec for those who like to dream.
Clio shell.
stripped of all luxury including heater low dash Excess steel (but not enough to weaken you never know she may roll:S).
Multi piont Torque speed welded roll cage, connecting to the strut tops.
All seam welded with axle stand pionts on sills.
Electric heated front screen.
4 piont seat belt harness motordrive bucket seats.
lightened rear boot lid v6 cup Spioler with light weight plastic glass thingy.
Smaller fuel tank and guard lpg tank in th spare wheel well (thats right she runs on propane)
3 fire extinguiser

Suspension
Mixtue of front struts. Leda Sach and ohlin.
Rear. Leda coil overs
Strenthened Front subframe with 2 sump guards one for Forrest and tarmack.
Rear axle strenghened to support coil over fixing piont.
Front wish bones have uniball ball jionts.
Brakes
front Hi speck 4 pot calipers with 320 disc and bells, with Ferodo 2500 pads. Wheel studs replaced with nuts for easy fitting. briaded hose's,
Rear standard with a adjustable biase.

Engine
2.0ltr 16v(172)
Cat cams 284 degree
head flowed and ported.
wossner pistons
arp bolts
lightened,ballenced and pinned con rods.
ballanced crank
AT Power throttle bodies
197 injectors
Tartarini lpg fuel system
182 ex manifold with 21/2" straight through exhaust with one rear box
Smaller chubby radiator.

Gearbox
Sadev st-75 6 speed sequential
sadev drive shaft's
Helix padle clutch

Electrics
Link plus ecu
Gear tronics flat shift with light
spa dash
Hdi headlights mian and dip
kc spot lights

Apart from neon lights and bigger balls please let me know how I can make her quicker:lolup:

How do you find your A T Power tb's.they working well?
When we first built the car we ran a large single throttle bodie (of a BMW) which was great but power peaked at 7k, so we fitted 42mm bike throttle bodies which then let her power peak at 7800 but after a while relised that they were to long and were restricted by the bonnet. So at's were fitted which are the right length, seams to react better when you punch the pedal out of slow corners :approve:

Had a good afternoon on the car today, Andy was on with it before me sanding down the filler on the rear quarter. I have filled were the trims fit on as I don't put them on to keep it simple.
Also had a look at the front wheel as it had a lot of camber and think the hub is bent, so I'll pull the spare one out in the morning fit it and see if that sorts it. we'll put some pics up tomorrow hope fully.

Have found loads of other probs bent front hub, steering rack,rear stub axle and I'm sure we will find more.
Got the seeding for the rally last night and we are no 17 out of 94 cars, so we had better be quick out of the first stage.
Rally is on the 2nd of jan so the count down is really on :S.

and the car is now finished but it was dark and i forgot to get pictures.

few little tweaks like headlight aim etc and she is ready to rally on the 2nd of jan @ croft. get yourselves along with plenty of layers and enjoy good entertaining motorsport, its cheap and it needs your support.
