Rattling exhaust

  RenaultSport Clio 182
Hi guys,

Sorry if this is one of those topics that has been covered before – I had a look but didn’t have much luck.

Over the last 4 weeks my exhaust has begun rattling. At first it was above 4000 rpm but now it is happening a lot more. I booked it into Renault 2 weeks ago but the first free spot they had was next Thursday (26th).

I’m thinking that it has simply come loose on it’s mountings or a bush has worn through – has anyone else had this occur?

It is an ‘04 182 with cup pack done 17k.

I need to use it a lot at the beginning of next week and do several hundred miles for work so would you advise taking it?

Getting very frustrated as I am making myself take it easy!

Sounds like what I had on mine (NOT CUP though)....nearly drove me round the bend. Took it 2 a few garages and they couldnt solve it but since having a cat back system it's gone. :)

Mine was fine to drive like it, I think it sounds worse than it is....but would advice a stainless zorst to anyone but you may bugger your warranty up??

They are very poor systems! the centre section's baffles break down and cause crazy noises.

Best option is to get it repaired under warranty then fit an aftermarket exhaust ;)

Thanks for the help guys - I'll try to get round to taking a look under the car at the weekend to play mechanic. It's just every time I go over a bump i'm half expecting to hear a nasty noise with my exhaust falling off!

Re: exhaust - I would like to keep it standard, so not really considering replacing it...

If their is one in your area, take it to kwik-fit, they will have a look for free and tell you whats wrong, proberly charge you to fix it, or you can do it yourself.

Other garages may do this, but the one mentioned is the only one i have ever tired...

Renault will charge you to fix it now anyway. The exhaust is considered a consumable, and was only covered under warrenty for 12 months.

Better off with a Stainless steel one.

Like someone said before, the baffles on the centre section of the exhaust get loose, you could replace them, but the rattle will come back eventualy.

The only permanent solution IMO is to replace the centre section, or better yet get an aftermarket complete exhaust.

Nothin' to be worried about really, but it is annoying like hell...

Issue is now all sorted.

Renault replaced the centre section of my exhaust - didn't cost me a penny as was apparently covered under warranty. Also had the washer jets for my headlights replaced as they leaked washer fluid.

Spent some time running around at the weekend and nearly had an incident... the level of brake fade is ridiculous - what do people recommend in the way of upgrades? Nothing OTT for racing/trackdays, just something for decent road use?

exhaust a consumable ?? if that is correct surely the life span of these zorsts are supposed to be over 3 years and you have a good argument to get it sorted under warranty - just that mine is rattling like fook and coupled with a loose heat shield the car just sounds pants lol - going to have it looked at on friday by the local renault stealer - will keep you posted
