Realistic MPG for a 182

  BMW Z4 3.0i
i got 36mpg on a 180 mile motorway drive sat at 80mph

thats bad, i can get 40 at 90 :S

I think I'm quite an economical driver when I want to be, though admittedly it's kind of out of your hands anyway travelling at constant speed on open motorway. But I never achieved over 40mpg doing 90mph in my ph2 172. It was a little while ago now but I used to do shitloads of motorway driving in the middle of the night and my memory of the economy figures were approximately:

70mph - 45 mpg
80mph - 40 mpg
90mph - 35 mpg

  106 GTi
28-32 in the real world, I hardly do m/way miles in mine though and only ever drive it for fun.

  R.I.P 182
I tested last night always thought i was on 28.9 and was upset :( But i got up to 36.5 doing 40mph through towns!

23.6 :( to be fair though mines sat idling for 10 mins 2-3 times a day waiting for the engine to warm up and once its warm economys the last thing I think about when I'm behind the wheel.

5 miles each way to work in town and getting 31-33. Went from Hudds to north Wales last month with some town driving/short trips and some heavy footed moments on the M way and got 38mpg. It aint bad for what it is:D

  R35 GTR
I was getting 35 without trying before the emissions went a bit dodgy then the car started drinking like a fish.

  clio 2.0 182 & z3m coupe
27.4 mpg, for me, consists of motorway driving occasional slow town driving but alot of driving around Milton Keynes which is not very good for mpg. so i would imagine low to mid 30's

Hi,
I am looking at getting a 182 but dont know if it going to be sensible enough to use for work. Basically i will end up doing around 6-8 miles of A road and then around 32-24 of motorway each day. Bearing this in mind what kind of mpg would you expect? I will obviously be driving pretty sensible on the way to worth so revs will be kept down etc.
Thanks
daniel
Ok...this is virtually the same as what i do each day and i tend to get around 33-36mpg. I just depends how heavy you are with the right-foot

  Clio 182 & Saxo VTR
I managed 36mpg at 70mph on cruise control on motorway. If i drive normally i avarage 22-24mpg. Realistically the commutes usually dont have clear runs and stading in traffic destroys your mpg so expect high 20s.

  a thirsty one
since adding mods mine is about 27-29 mpg (btb cat back, yozza decat and air filter) i reset it everytime i fill up and always use superunleaded.

  R5gtt, 182, volvo...
my 106 1.4 xsi just did me a 37 mpg since my last fill up, and thats with a nasty 1 & a half hours stuck in gridlock traffic one day...

clio seemd to do 30'ish

5gtt does the same but i drive that playfully :D

  182 Trophy
Don't get a diesel...false economy IMO unless you're doing loads of miles.
They're expensive when they break down, diesel is now a lot more expensive than petrol, they soon get boring to drive and worst of all even the newest diesels still sound like small tractors...
I've tried diesels a couple of times - Golf Gt Tdi (was crap) then replaced my 182 with a BMW 320d (turbo just been replaced at cost of £2k!) - 8mnths later I'm selling up to be reunited with the 182 exerience :)
182's have fantastic fuel economy for what they are.
