Rear bearing, correct way around?

  330i, Alfa 147 & SP1
Yeah I know weird!

Anyway new discs, new pads, new bearings what joy. Went to start it today and noticed one end of the bearings the seal is flared and the other end is flat. Anyone one know why and what way they are meant to be pressed in?

Obviously the bearing seal is flared one end for a reason.

02 172 FF btw

Cheers peeps

Both ends have a seal Sonim guessing you mean the end with the flare sits facing TOWARDS the car and not facing out?

Would have taken my old gear off but it started proper pissing down and had to leave it.

The square side of the seal always goes on the outside of the bearing. Its to keep the grease inside the bearing. You should have 2 seals.

Course it has 2 seals its a bearing ;)

Anyway just knocked off old disc and the bearing is absolutely shot, so not only would it have failed on discs but i think the 4mm movement would have failed too.

So anyone searching this in future, the flared end of the seal points towards hub and flat seal faces away from car.

Thanks to you both

this must be the right position for the seal before mounting the entire disc...

Ok all done. Correct way for bearing is

Flat seal facing OUT
The flared end seal faces towards the HUB

Proper Shiity design carrier but then again I'm used to bike calipers I guess
