Rear brake piston wont go in far enough

As title, rear piston still needs another few mm to go in to get the pads sitting right. Drivers side went fine but passenger side has done this.

Any advice on how we could get it in? It only needs one more full turn but its stopping as if its got to its end.

Have undone the cap.

It goes in fine so far, then wont go in that last bit.

The generic tool my uncle has doesn't fit so had to resort to the screwdriver method.

Pop the dust seal, apply WD40, go again.

Not wanting to state the obvious but some people fail to get this right...

... the rear pads have a locating boss on the back of it which needs to sit in the grove of the piston. If it doesnt the pad isn't sat correctly and so sticks out further. Be sure you get this bit right.

Just rang my uncle, as the cars at his.

He says its moving lovely, just wont go in the last few mm. The pads are sat in the groove too, and are perfectly straight.

Not sure what to do at all now, I'm not wanting to buy new calipers, could sand down the pads

You have pulled the brake pad carrier away from the caliper haven't you?

I made this mistake once you need to push the caliper and pull the carrier away from each other

Yep, I've done them before on my last 182 no problem. And the other side went fine.

Thanks for all the replies so far

I'm off to see my car in about half an hour or so, any ideas?

I'm thinking I might just take a bit off the pads and then next time I'll get new calipers, that's if it doesn't wind in tonight.

no that is a bodge

the correct method is to smack fook out of it with a hammer, won't fix it but it'll be fun

I, erm, fit the pads ;)

The same calipers hand brake mechanism doesn't work though (foot brake works fine), so think its new caliper time, where's best to get them?

Brake parts.com, I forget the actual site.

Google brake parts, it's a green and white themed site, but is flash based so can't do it on an iOS device.

About £25 last time I checked, it's a very common caliper

Cheers for that, around £100 for the right one, have to enquire for the alternative caliper so have sent one it.

Really hope it is that price! If not there is a new genuine one on ebay for £90
