Rear Brakes Sticking on 172 cup

  A4 Avant & A3
After leaving my car over night when it's been raining (it's hardly been nice since buying the car!), in the morning i go to pull away & the rear brakes are stuck right on & bang when released!
I know disks brakes do, do this a bit as when left for a while, but this car seems to be worse than anything i've ever had before..
They stick real bad, and only after one night, think i'm gonna have to be leaving the thing in gear with the handbrake off soon!

Anyone else get this? (as bad) or is it just me?

I have had this happen quite a few times recently. Not for a week or two though. I was trying to figure out exactly when it happened, whether is was after rain, or temps below freezing etc. Since I planned to do that though it hasn't happened since.

It doesn't feel right thogh does it. Especially if it is rear brakes like you say. Mine has just failed MOT due to having no rear brakes. Looks like they work better after being left over night. Lol

Get used to it I'm afraid.

After 50k, mine still do it pretty much every single day in this weather, and have done since new. Doesn't affect anything (other than your ability to pull away without lurching like a learner driver).

All cars with rear discs suffer this annoying problem. Work colleague's Lotus does it and so have both of my Clios. I park my 172 in a flattish garage and never use the handbrake - I just have an old rubber car mat behind the front wheels to stop the car rolling backwards.

:) phew.. as long as it's not just mine..
Like i say, once i've actually moved the car a little the brakes crack from their rust bit on the discs & it's ok.. it's just that bit where you don't move for a second when pulling away off the drive & hearing it crack off that worried me a bit! i could understand if i hadn't driven it for a few days but not over night...
Oh welll, cheers for getting back to me on that, puts my mind at ease... a bit :)

Just spray your rear discs and pads with WD40 that should solve it..LOL;)

Mine does the same, it really paps me off. had one of my rear pads disappear with a loud bang while doing about 30 MPH. Made a right mess of the wheel. I thought this maybe due to constant rear brakes welding themselves up overnight. But who knows

Mine does it sometimes too, but not recently strangely enough. I've heard people say if you put the handbrake on and off a few times or pump the brakes before setting off it frees them and you don't get the "bang".
