Rear drum brakes

  White Clio 1.2 @ 172
How much should replacment rear drum brakes on a Clio 1.2 1998Mk2 be including fitting and labour? my local scam garage want £150 out of me and said my back 'shoes' have gone and some seal... I don't know alot about the braking system and they obviously know that so I don't know whether they're trying to rip me off or what?

Because its a f**king 'mare of a job! I do the vast majority of work to the car myself or with help from friends, only 1 of my mates knows how to do it and I had to call him in after pissing around for hours! Next time its going in the garage! Gimme disk brakes anyday of the week!

Its not that bad, I do most the work on mine too. The only problem was when they seized rock solid (..here comes the angle grinder...) ;)

the guys doing it for me now anyway, hes using a slide hammer apparently because my rear right hand side is seized on... hopefully i shouldn't have rear drums for very much longer :p

If i get the new job i've been wanting I shall be getting the 2.0l lump in :)

rear drums are easy, they just look difficult the first few times you touch them, lol.

set of shoes are cheap (£30 max), new spring kit (£5ish), and im assuming the seal in question was a seal on the cylinder (new cylinders cost me £16.50 each), so chances are the rest is labour.

nightmare to get the right bits for though (i apparantly have the same brakes that came on 1.4's made after the date my car was made... lol), had a garage do them first time round, but they were putting on the wrong parts!!! (found that out when my brakes failed one day approaching a roundabout at speed)

drums probably arent seized, the bearing will just be on tight (i just used a puller to take mine off)

since then, i just dont trust garages.
