Rear washer questions

Could anyone clear up a couple of questions for me?

1. Is the rear wiper meant to come on automatically when reversing whilst the front wipers are on? (The car has smart wipers and read on this forum that this was meant ot happen).

2. The rear washer on my car doesnt squirt, it sort of pours water down the back window. The front washers have small balls in to direct a jet of water to the screen, the rear just has a hole, but looks like ball could fit in, is the ball missing or is the dribble normal?

yes the wipers are meant to come on when you reverse if the fronts are on. and on my one it was usually a strem rather than a squirt, but now it dont work at all!!

1. as bigtommy says, the rear wiper should come on when you select reverse with the front wipers on.

2. Mine has an adjustable ball in it, but because of the curve at the top of the window it just dribbles it down the rear screen.

bigtommy - if it has stopped working, but you can hear the washer pump working then the pipe has probably come off the end of the jet. It can happen if you try and use the rear washer when the jet is clogged/frozen as the pressure causes the hose to come off the jet and ends up soaking the inside of the tailgate.
