Crikey how the market has changed. And to think i had one of these in my garage with 90k on it a few years ago and couldn't give it away. Went for £100 in the end.

Funny you should say that but i commented on the very same thing when they posted an engine on Faceache. I know a lad in Darlo who has one of their builds, he's very happy with it. Paid £1,500 quid then but prices seem to have gone bonkers.

Yeah a mate of mine had some work done there and said they're very good.

But £2k seems a bit steep. Saying that, i haven't worked out what it'd cost to do all that work and make a bit of profit on top.

Last time I had the belts done on my old 182 at a specialist I had a bill of almost £1k, I did have a few other things done.

Just checked online prices to have belts, dephaser, waterpump + coolant, and cam cover resealed and it's £1075. So if your belts, etc are due, you looking at an extra £1k for a rebuilt engine. Plus you old engine will be worth something second hand to someone looking for a replacement for a blown one

Yeah i know what you mean. I have 3 perfectly good working Clio Sports but i'm still planning on switching the engines around should one go and sell the other bits off for spares.

yeah my top end refresh/upgrade on my track car engine last summer - belts, water pump, valves, crank pulley, arp road bolts, grp n timing, set me back a couple of grand, so the price of these engines seem decent value.

My post was more an observation of how the market has changed in such a short period of time. Paid £500 for my BG 4 years ago and then spent another £3,000 putting it to a high standard. Never thought I’d ever see a return on that investment but judging by the price of general parts, engines and cars, the future’s looking bright for Clio Sport Owners 😊

Thats not bad for a freshly built engine, not even recon-exchange. If you were running in a race series you'd probably be quite interested.

Gotta remember people will only give £100 for a 90k miler out a breaker because it's a completely unknown quantity and it's not like you've got any comeback if it goes pop.

I agree.

Mine was a backup engine for my track car with proof of belts done by a specialist 2 years in. Came off a car with full service history. Paid £240 for it, had it in storage 2 years. Stuck it on Facebook Marketplace and in the groups, as it was just taking up space, and not a single message or taker.

I only wanted what i paid for it.

Readvertised it for £100 and a guy rocked up in a Transit van from Manchester in record time, Sabina would have been most impressed 🤣

I've seen engines with no proof of running or belts for £500 plus.

I have a few JC130's sitting here as well but going to hang onto those. Crazy market at the moment.

This kind of makes sense a bit to me. I’m due the big service on my engine. It’s going to cost the thick end of a grand. If my current engine is worth £500 then I’m only really paying and additional £650 to get a refurbished unit. Obviously my time and additional Sundry items to swap them out….hmmm alternatively what would I pay to have that work done on my existing unit? For those in the know?

By the sounds of it, its only a quick hone, rings, bearings and ancillaries. No new oil pump and all the sealant on the rocker cover.

Id rather do the belts on a good running engine than sticking in something that might have just had a quick flash over.
