remap £354? sound right?

  Clio 182, Supra RZ
Just had a quote from rs tuning for a remap quoted me for £354 does this sound a bit pricey? Modifications are prima racing cams (similar to 428s) then your usual little things like ac delete, induction, exhaust and decat. Does anyone have any other places I can give a call?

RSTuning are a very reputable company, and Paul is a trader on here. That's about the going rate for a proper remap

I know they're very reputable thats why they where the first to call on my list despite they are almost 2 hours away from me the only reason I thought it was pricey was because my astra was mapped at regal for 250 but if thats the going rate for a clio then I supose I cant argue

  A special one.
When paul mapped my car I had to hire a recovery truck, drive it 4.5 hrs to Pauls, get it mapped then drive 4.5hrs back home.

That was an expensive day but worth it.

That's what I paid Paul. The only thing that got me was its a flat rate, so even though it only took an hour it was still £354. £354 per hour...who charges that?! I couldn't knock the work though, it was spot on

When I went with the aftermarket ECU and ITBs I had 6 hours done at £40 per hour elsewhere. One reason was Leeds is quite far and the second was I couldn't afford £2124 for mapping. Although I'm sure his rate would be much lower over 6 hours.

He doesn't charge that per hour lol. Its just a flat charge, whether it takes 1 hour or 6 the price is what he tells you.

It took him around 3 hours to map my 182 because the ECU had to be removed as it wouldn't communicate over OBD. He charged me the same price. Top bloke!

I know, I was taking the piss. But a flat charge is a big steep sometimes, the work on mine was minimal.

Can't argue with him being a nice bloke and a great mapper though.

Makes the R35 GTR quite obvious tbh...

Maybe averages 2hr per map, nearly £200 an hour, sounds like he's not short of customers to fill the order books etc.

But then again a £100k rolling road/premises/electricity doesn't pay for itself. You're also paying for the knowledge it's done correctly and right. The reason us specialists charge more than your back street garage is because you're paying for our knowledge of the vehicles, not some mechanic who knows the basics of how to do the job.

Don't bring logic into this, Dan

I certainly wouldn't complain at that.

Look at it this way, it costs £600 for a tuner to plug a laptop into the RS and fire on a generic map file from Revo so £354 is cheap.

Never said anything about overheads or operating costs, just remarking that it's a nice "equivalent hourly rate" to be able to charge.

Chris insisted on having it a week and was still sat tweaking when I picked it up.
With just a map he found 43 more horses and a shed load of torque.

Chi's forged Clio 172 turbo making 300bhp:

Looking at the setup and taking a passenger ride in Chi's Turbo when he picked it up the other day I would definitely have no issues using Efi for any mapping. Plus it's on 10 minutes from me so handy too lol.
