Removing 172 gear nob??

Guys, is it just a case of brute force and anger, or is there a special way to get this off??

Do I need to pull on it, and prize a screwdriver under it?

when I did mine, I removed the outer leather bit first to expose the plastic moulding and then just used mole grips to and just kept twisting it, that worked for me anyway
