Removing "farm" smell

  MK4 Anni & MK5 Edt30
Hey folks,

I recently bought a MK5 Golf from a farmer and it has that distinct "farm" smell in the interior. It's not too strong, just very faint to be fair but definitely noticable. I'm just wondering what is the best stuff to use to completely get rid of it? Like a smoke bomb maybe? I've replaced the pollen filter to a carbon one so far and will get it detailed properly. Just wondered if anyone has had anything similar and found a good product for it?

Wet vac anything fabric IMO (I've got a Vax spot washer and it does the job well, think the Bissells are more popular though) and go from there, always been sceptical of those smoke bomb things as surely the source of the smell is still in the car? Unless it's purely bacterial I suppose.

You need to deep shampoo the seats, mats, carpet and roof lining. Wet vac all that off, AF cleaner for the plastics.

What kind of farmer was he?

Regardless of the answer, this is what we do when we sell the vans the pig guys use:

All new matts
Plastics cleaned with APC
Wet vac carpets and seats
Then run 2 of these through it:

Fixes most things.

I bought the wife a car from a farmer years ago. It was disgusting but cheap! Managed to get rid of the smell by removing the seats, carpets etc and wet-vac the s**t out of it several times, cleaned the roof lying with the wet-vac and then left it in the garage to dry out before dropping an anti vac fogger like Waity suggested. Oh and replace the bloody pollen filter.

I’ve struggled more with the old man smell in my Cayman! Tried bloody everything and it’s still there…which has made me really question where the smell is coming from. My son then noted that I’m old and it’s likely me that’s making the car smell of oldness

It's not that bad mate, it isn't cow muck or anything like that, just smells a bit "barny" lol. Like grain/corn, so it's not putrid etc. Will give these a whirl thanks! :)

I'd be more worried about the mice that will have been in the car if it smells like wheat 🥲

Similar reasons to Russ, bought Emily a car years ago from a woman who ran a stables. No matter what I did, remove seats, jest wash them, anti bacterial fogger etc. Next summer it would be stinking of horse again. The horrendous reek of cannabis went quit easily.... it was very cheap.

Just before we sold it I found a lump of hay/mud/crap stuck under the passenger seat 🤦‍♂️ I assume where she had shoved her wellys each day.
