Removing Front brake calliper 1.2

  clio 1.2 16v
Hi,

Couple of problems really, 1st of which being trying to get to my brake pads as i've got a feeling they are on the way out, undid the two 13/14mm (cant remember which) bolts on the top and bottom of the calliper, and nothing, it moves about a decent amount but just won't come off the disc! :dapprove: no matter of pushing and shoving i dont think as we had a good go at that.

So, is there something i'm missing that i need to undo? also took the brake fluid tank cap off thinking it was the cylinder pushing hard on but don't think it was that.

2nd problem, got some wheel spacers for the back as i'm putting 172 alloys on and the centre bore isn't 60.1 is it for the clio's? if i got spigot rings to fill the gap would think work? or would the wheel not then have room to slip on? (just bolt on spacers btw) of a larger diameter causing strange noises! (not centred to hub at a guess)

was thinking something like these : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/x4-Centre...s_Trims_ET&hash=item25610659e8#ht_3312wt_1271

but need to double check spacer diameter.

Any help much appreciated :p

Try and get a large flat head screw driver on the piston side of the caliper and force it back slightly. This will give you enough space to get the pads out. You will probably have a lip round the outside of the disc that is preventing you getting them off.

What thickness of spacer are you going for?

Cheers mate! yeah that lip does sound a likely option,

and sent a mate for 5mm a side but came back with closer to 10mm a side, will this effect whether i can centre them properly?

They will not be hubcentric at that thickness then. You will need longer bolts and will need bored out to suit. A steering judder will probably follow as well. Do you really need them?

Cheers for the replies lads, and for the 172 alloys i'm waiting to put on yes, but this second with the dynamique alloys no.

I have longer bolts that came with them and the bore of the spacer is something like 67 at a guess, so just thought if i could get something that went from say 67.1 to 60.1 it would centre it properly?
