Removing plenum?

I need to remove the plenum to access the bolts on the 'thing' below it, which are leaking oil so need resealing/tightening.

It looks a bit daunting, so can someone tell me how to remove it? there's sensors, coilpack, throttle body etc all connected to it so im a little cautious of pulling everything off. Also, will it need a new seal/gasket when refitting it?

here's the bolts i need to get to (under the inlet)

and here's a pic of the engine bay that can be used for reference:

thanks in advance

Come on Dan! Thought you were competant!!

theres 1 2 3 4 5, 5 10ml bolts on the front

1 2, 2 10ml bolts on the back

undo map, temp, coilpack, brake vacuum servo, throttle cable think thats it!!

Edit: Acoustic valve and dodgy carbon canister piece of crap thingy

Undo the coils and then undo the sensor cable (last picture on the right of the plenum) (take off the complete coilpack and remove the cable from the plenum) (the sequence is on the coil pack and you should make sure you hook them up good)

I can't remember the cable going over the plenum, near the coilpack, on my car (172 phase 2), but you have to get that off aswell.

I took off my throttle body as well. (easy peasy and you can clean it while your at it)

Undo all bolts 5 in front and 2 in the back (if I remember correctly)

Taking off the plenum can be a bit hard since it is pin-pointed in place, to mate with the lower inlet manifold.

It's actually a forward job and you should not find any problems doing this. (the hard part is sealing the bolts I think)

Edit: LOL @ Point8 for referring to my thread :p

Undo the bolts and lift off. The parts are all basically fastend to the plenum

No no i mean all the bits you need to take off are fastend to the plenum basically. If you lifted it off you'd see all the things you need to take off as listed as a easy guide but remove fastend bits then lift off

Its so easy to do, it makes it hard to explain lol

Enjoy my L337 paint skills!

Marked are all the point you have to focus on.

Purple rounds and point are where the bolts are.
Square on the right is the throttle body
Green-lined = unknown to me but has to come off or you have to pull the plenum from under it.
Yellow is the coil-pack that has to be disconnected from all the wires. (itself can stay on the plenum)
Blue-ish marked (near the throttle body are hose for vacuum/venting) they have to come off aswell.
Pink marked (near the throttle body) is a sensor that can be disconnected.
Throttle body has a cable aswell (underneath) that has to come off aswell.

Just take your time and you will be fine.

Edit: too late! you rock Matt!

Mines better felix :rasp: hahahaha Mine has writing too!!! No you dont need to undo the coilpack it comes off with it!

Edit: You know I'm joking buddy :) Ill try get my PTFE write up done tonight if I can be bothered!

Read my comments and additional info above the picture matt ;)

Ow by the way I found it hard to undo the cable that goes to the coil-pack a b*****d to remove from the plenum. (not from the coil pack) It is on with a small ******* clip

My apoligies, you must have more patience than me! I did attempt mine but it got thrown through the greehouse window.

Do you have pictures of your handywork Dan?

Just unplug the map rather than pulling it out the plenum, no need messing about with it for no reason.

thanks for everyone's help... looked like this at 4pm today.

and don't even get me started on this clip... it is in fact IMPOSSIBLE to clip back together once you've taken it off. A nice and easy jubilee clip is now in its place :)

Looks good Fubar!

Make sure you don't get you car fubar (fucked up beyond any repair) if something falls into the lower inlet manifold. (will end up in the engine)

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
the clip stays on, the tube just pulls off,

only ever undo one bolts at a time on the rocker cover

and you must re tighen in a sequence to a specified torque

That looks like a red car above?! Been practising on someone elses car or a case of magic camera again!
Glad you got it sorted though.

Which bolts on this pic are you resealing?

The 5 along the front, you can just about make out the blue sealant around the bolt heads in the pic.

Alex, it was definately the orange car... just my shite k850i on an overcast day.

Hey fubar how are things working out?

At the picture you took I can't see any leakage around the bolts :S
