Removing silencer

  Clio 182
Went to a local garage today and was told that my exhaust was rusted and blowing between the cat and the back box.

They told me that they could do a repair by taking out the mid silencer and putting in a straight through pipe between the cat and the back boxes.

They are stockists of powerflow exhausts and seem to have a bit of experience.

Any one had this done before and if so:

- can I expect a massive difference in the sound?
- Will there be a gain/loss in power?

It's a 182 with a standard exhaust on it.

Thanks for any replies.

Don't think it will be much louder if at all, decatting a standard system seems to make no difference so I can't see why this will do.

Doubt there'll be any difference In performance.

How much they want to charge? What you need to remember is that the stock backbox is also made of cheese so will be about do e fairly soon, so maybe its time for a full stainless system?

cutting out the CAT / mid silencer join is a common thing as you can enlarge it to 2.25" / 2.5" which has had positive effects. most times it can be done by retaining the mid silencer. where exactly is yours blowing? as said before, I'd consider biting the bullet and get a full stainless system

I need to go back tomorrow to get a quote from a particular mechanic. From what the other guy said (and what he showed me) it is blowing from the actual silencer. I just didn't know that it was an option, but I guess if that parts on its way out the rest will follow shortly.

I've always wanted a sports exhaust, just didn't want to spend the money. Don't think I'll have a choice now.

Thanks

mine went through the MOT two weeks ago, the week after the MOT it was sitting not being driven, when i came to drive it last monday my exhaust started blowing and backbox had died by the end of the day - just replaced my backbox yesterday to find the center section also blowing now - got knows how it got through the MOT.

As above if you center section is going i would expect your backbox(es) to be not far behind
