Removing Stripes

My striped RB is 8 years old now, and I'm pretty sure it's had the stripes on since new.

I'm contemplating removing them, but as the car is currently getting work done, I'm wondering if the paintwork will clash once the stripes are removed. White stripes are fine, but slightly different racing blue stripes on a racing blue car might not be quite so "Gordini". The paintwork is in great condition, TBF, but there must still be a potential problem?

Anyone done similar - maybe 6 years+ of stripes to naked? Polish out? Won't be an issue? Don't remove stripes?

Thoughts?

i took the stripes of my last rb and i was left with 2 greeny/blue stripes in the paint and no matter how much i pollished you could still see them so i had to refit new white stripes. but my new rb has no stripes and the paint is perfect

Its always going to leave marks as your original paint will have fainted.

REMOVE. my new stripes cost around £8 of ebay should you want to renew

Did you remove the stripes off your new one or did it come with them off? As you said your first one left distinct lines. That's something I don't want.

I'd leave them on to be honest mate.

Mine have been on the car since new, and have a few little marks on them. (very small to be honest). I might remove the stripes and fit new ones. I'm a bit to picky :(

my new one came with no stripes so after a good wash i checked the paint and it was fine, if not i was going to fit stripes. i think it looks much better without them

But your new one may have had the stripes removed from new. Mine have been on 8 years like I say.

I think its going to leave the marks, but its not hard to rectify if it does.

If you can make it look good without, leave them off, if it looks crap, put them back on.

Simples. :)

Its going to be easier to just leave them on Senor Scutchi.

I'd imagine it would seriously piss you off trying to polish out the mess it leaves and ultimatley having to replace the stripes?

in 8 years your paint will have weathered and faded and no matter how much polishing with a rotary you do, nearly all the time, you wont be able to change that, just make it shiny.

personally i'd leave them on unless you can live with the lines of where the stripes were
